HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' GOLF: ABEL SHOOTS 3-UNDER 34 TO LEAD CORNING IN FIVE-TEAM MATCH (24 PHOTOS) (2025-04-21) Southern Tier Sports Report CORNING — Delaney Abel earned medalist honors with a three-under 34 as Corning picked up wins over four teams on Monday at Corning Country Club.
Abel shot a three-under 34, including an eagle on the second hole.
The big day comes after Abel missed the Hawks first home meet of the season.
“It was obviously great having Delaney back in the lineup,” Corning coach Chris Clark said. “She was the low score tonight with a -3 round. Big difference with her in the lineup.
“Harper Abel (7th grader) and Tess Barber and Jaedyn Vernacotola (both ninth graders) all showed huge improvements from the first match of the season. This was definitely needed tonight because señor Amanda Hall was out of the lineup due to illness.”
Corning shot 192 on the day. Lansing was at 208 and SVE was at 244. Horseheads had two golfer and Notre Dame had three.
Along with the 34 from Delaney Abel, the Hawks got a 46 from Vernacotola and Barber shot 54.
Ava Sullivan-Knapp shot 56 and Harper Abel had a 58, while Kamryn Fusare shot a 71.
Evelyn Wheeler shot 40 for Notre Dame, Emma Steed had a 48 and Sophia Sramek had a 71.
Mady Weigand shot 47 for Horseheads and Ellie Padgett shot 56.
Hailey Baughan shot 45 to lead Lansing and Alessandra Monacelli shot 52, while Farren Snyder shot 54 and Anna Lombardi had a 57. Elly Syer shot 64.
Lauren Gillette led SVE with a 48 and Lily Kunzman shot 62. Deliah Alpert had a 66 and Reece Hickey shot 68. Kelci Wright shot 70 and Hannah Smith had a round of 83. ——— PHOTOS BY BRIAN FEES
