Southern Tier Sports ReportCORNING — The Corning Hawks and Vestal Golden Bears played to a 12-12 tie in the top of the eighth when the game was called because of darkness.
Corning jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the first three innings of the game.
Both teams scored two in the fourth and three in the fifth, with Corning up 12-5 entering the sixth inning.
In the sixth Vestla scored a run and they had six in the seventh inning.
Daphne Sherman had two home runs and a double with five RBI, three hits and two runs scored in the game.
Kayleigh Sparks had two hits, with a home run, three RBI and a run scored and Sophie Schoonover had a home run with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.
Emelia Smith had three hits, with a double and three runs scored and Matti Johnston had two doubles and a run scored.
Lauren DeRosa had two hits and scored a run and Keana Mann had a double.
Kendall Curreri and Lauren Teribury scored runs in the game.
Johnston worked 4 1/3 innings, striking out five and allowing seven hits and six runs, just two earned. Smith worked 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and six runs, just one earned.
