SECTION 4 GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA AND HORSEHEADS HAVE BCANY PLAYERS, COACHES OF YEAR (2025-03-28)

Horseheads and Corning girls took the player of the year and coach of the year award honors for the BCANY basketball all-stars.

Mariah Matias, who shared the honor last year, was the AAA player of the year and Megan Wolf of Horseheads was the AA player.

Elmira coach A’Don Allen was the AAA coach of the year and Andy Scott of Horseheads won the AA honor.

Emma Phelan of Johnson City (A), Maggie Warpus of Chenango Forks (B), Charli Bennett of Southern Cayuga (C) and Addy Eckert of South Kortright (D) were the other players of the year. Johnson City coach Chris Sinicki, Mike Curtis of Forks, Todd Bruce of Delhi (C) and Josh Burroughs of South Kortright were the coaches of the years.

The all-star teams were 19 in first team, 15 in second and 18 in honorable mention, between all the classes.

First team all-stars included Samantha Bonnell of Horseheads, Matias, Wolf and Char Starns of Corning.

Jordyn Gross of Horseheads was a second-team all-star.

Horseheads’ Maddie Ribble and Elmira’s Meya Smith and Addison Taft were honorable mention all-stars.
