SECTION 4 BASEBALL: NEW LOOK EXPRESS EXCITED AS THEY PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON (15 PHOTOS) (2025-03-27)
By Brian FeesSouthern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA —— For the Elmira Express the roster has a bit of a new look after seven seniors graduated last year, but the team is excited to see what they can do as they prepare for the season.
“Obviously lost seven seniors who played I think 80 something games each over the course of four years,” Elmira coach Jason Manwaring said. “Completely different roster this year and we are excited.
“It’s new blood in the system, guys who have been in our program for a long time and now get a chance to experience high level competition this spring.”
It’s special to be back outside preparing for another season.
“It feels great,” Manwaring said. “WE haven’t spent much time in the gym. We are excited to get rolling with our team this spring.”
And, being in the Northeast the weather has been a bit of everything, from 75 degrees, to 30’s and snowing at times.
“A little of everything, but that’s baseball in the Northeast,” Manwaring said. “We are used to it. We got on the turf for an intrasquad the other night from 7-10. The lights cut off on us, but it was beautiful, we got a lot of work in.
“We are just excited to take advantage of the weather when we can and get outside.”
