SECTION 4 SOFTBALL: EDISON HAS MIX OF SENIORS, NEW FACES AS THEY RETURN TO THE FIELD (15 PHOTOS) (2025-03-27)
By Brian FeesSouthern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — After losing five seniors to graduation last year, the Edison Spartans have five more on the roster this year as they get ready for the new season.
“Roster looks good,” Edison coach Liz Warren said. “We are coming back from losing five seniors, with another five seniors this year, so lots of transitions. We miss the seniors from last year, but are looking forward to seeing the younger girls step up.”
And, having five seniors again this year helps bring experience back to the field this season.
“The confidence that comes with being seniors,” Warren said. “The leadership that comes naturally to these girls. It’s nice to have them to lead the way, because the program is changing, so we are building what we can now and hopefully staying strong in the future too.”
And, it’s been nice so far being able to get outside at times during the first two weeks of practices.
“It feels exciting,’ Warren said. “Although the snow today (Wednesday) is bringing us down a little bit. We are looking forward to being outside again, getting the chance to kind of rebuild what we’ve got here.
“To be able to say at the end of March that we have been able to get outside already is exciting. And, we are looking forward, we have a scrimmage on Saturday and it’s supposed to be beautiful weather and we are looking forward to that.”
