CORNING — A season ago the Corning Hawks had a year to remember, going unbeaten in the regular season and winning their first ever STAC title.

Now, Corning is back to work, preparing for a new season with a number of new faces.

“We talked about it in the preseason, how good we did last year,” Corning coach Tim Ball said. “We always set high goals, but we will see what we can do with some new kids in new spots.

“We are pretty excited about playing. I’ve got a big team, I’ve got 26 kids and they are ready to play.”

And, the weather was solid the first week as the Hawks were able to get out all of last week.

“It’s unbelievable being able to be outside,” Ball said. “We have been outside every day this week. The temperature has been pretty nice to us. A little windy, but that’s the Southern Tier. The weather has been kind to us.”

And, that nice weather, and more time outside, gets the Hawks a little ahead of the curve in a year where they do have some rebuilding to do.

“100 ahead of the game,’ Ball said. “We lost quite a few seniors from last year. A little rebuilding year, but kids stepping into new positions, so it gives us time to figure that out.”
