HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' FLAG FOOTBALL: HORSEHEADS HITS THE FIELD AS PRACTICES FOR SPRING SPORTS BEGIN (24 PHOTOS) (2025-03-17)

Southern Tier Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads flag football team got back on the field Monday as they prep for another season.

“It’s great, just nice to be back on the football field,” Horseheads coach Kevin Hillman said.

While the weather looks nice for much of the week it was a cold day Monday as the Blue Raiders got to work preparing for the season with strong numbers for varsity, and for their first JV team.

“We have a good group right now,” Hillman said. “We have like 40 something girls between the two programs, so we are looking to get about 20 on each. So, we have a really good turnout. We have some new girls coming out. Some girls from basketball and stuff like that, so we are excited.”

Getting a number of new athletes, some of them ones who play multiple other sports at the school, is something exciting for the Blue Raiders.

“It’s going to take some time, because it’s going to be new to them,” Hillman said. “You can see some of them, their heads are spinning today. So, it’s going to take some time to catch up, but we have a nice, long season. I think that the first half of the season we are going to have to try and figure out who we are as a team, and then hopefully that second half we start rolling.”

Things get started soon for the Blue Raiders.

“It’s crazy,” Hillman said. “We are here and then all of a sudden next week we scrimmage and then two games. We have a lot to do and not a lot of time.”
