NYSPHSAA BOWLING: LOCALS FIND SUCCESS IN COMPOSITE COMPETITION AT STATES (2025-03-15)
Southern Tier Sports ReportSYRACUSE — Area bowlers found success during the composite competition at the NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships at Strike N Spare Lanes on Saturday.
Zack Crown of Edison was part of the Section IV boys’ Division II team that brought home the bronze medal.
Section IV shot 6,503, just 32 pins out of second and 67 pins out of first. They were 99 pins better than the fourth place team.
Crown was 27th for D2 at 1,201. He shot 232-180-175-182-247-185 and averaged 200.17. Jacob Prentice of Section IV won at 1,477 followed by another Section IV bowler Landon Butenko at 1,418.
In Division I for the boys Section IV finished fourth at 6,566 pints, 159 pins out of first place.
Noah Cody of Horseheads was eighth overall at 1,366. The winning score was Zach Kassel of Section III at 1,436.
Cody shot 258-269-236-208-213 and 182 on the day. He averaged 227.67 for the day and was the top Section IV bowler.
Horseheads’ Michael Rennells finished 13th at 1,341. He shot 227-241-234-191-234-214 and averaged 223.50.
Corning’z Zach Sturdevant was at 1,228 and finished 35th. He shot 167-234-173-193-258-203 and averaged 204.67. Cayden Bowman was next at 1,227. He started with a 279 game and then shot 186-193-135-248-186 for a 1,227.
The Section IV girls finished seventh at 5,947. They were 306 pins out of third place.
Corning’s Kylie Downing finished in 11th place and was the top Section IV bowler.
Downing shot 227-228-259-203-213 and 159 and averaged 214.83. Downing shot 714 for the first three games of the day.
Corning’s Jadyn O’Dell was 45th at 1,104. She shot 146-160-196-163-224-215 and averaged 184.00. The Hawks’ Zoe Harmer was 49th at 1,058. She shot 191-170-193-180-177-147 and averaged 176.33.
