NYSPHSAA BOYS' BASKETBALL: CORNING HANGS TOUGH, BUT FALLS IN STATE REGIONALS (2025-03-12)
Southern Tier Sports ReportYORKTOWN — The Corning Hawks got within a point in the third quarter, but in the end they came up just short against New Rochelle in the NYSPHSAA regional round, falling 64-51 on Wednesday.
Corning held a 14-9 lead in the first quarter, before New Rochelle finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 16-14.
New Rochelle went up 28-21 at the half, but in the third quarter the Hawks got within 32-31. The Hawks outscored New Rochelle 17-16 in the quarter and trailed 44-38 after three
6-foot, 8-inch Malik Gasper led New Rochelle with 30 points, 23 in the second half, 15 in the final quarter.
Nolyn Proudfoot led Corning with 20 points, including eight boards, an assist and a steal.
Kyler Stevenson had 12 points, with six rebounds, three assists and a steal and Carter Proudfoot finished with 11 points, two rebounds, two blocked shots and an assist.
Mekai Daniels had four points, five rebounds and four assists for the Hawks and Kohl Hogue and Spencer Castile each had two points in the game. Hogue had four rebounds and a steal and Castle had a rebound.
New Rochelle out rebounded the Hawks 39-27. Gasper had a double-double for New Rochelle, adding 14 rebounds.
