SECTION 4 GIRLS' BASKETBALL: NOTRE DAME GIRLS EDGED BY MARATHON IN SECTIONALS (24 PHOTOS) (2025-02-26) Southern Tier Sports Report SOUTHPORT — The Notre Dame girls’ basketball team fell behind early and were never able to fully recover in a 53-42 loss to Marathon in the Section IV, Class C playoffs.
The fourth-seeded Crusaders fell behind No. 13 Marathon 15-8 after one quarter in the loss.
Notre Dame fought back in the second half and had the game tied with 90 seconds left in the half, but Marathon scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 27-23 at the half.
Notre Dame tied the game, but never took the lead in the second half of the game.
Marathon led by one after three quarters, and outscored the Crusaders 15-5 in the fourth to secure the win.
Kalysta DeMark had 23 points for Notre Dame, with three threes. She had nine points in the third quarter and seven in the second quarter.
Payton Sutryk had 14 points and Leah O’Connell had a three-pointer while Jhamariah Maxwell also had three points.
Audrey Ensign had 17 points for Marathon, six in the opening quarter, and Addie Oram had 13 points, with three threes, all in the first half. Alina Parker had 12 for Marathon. ——— PHOTOS BY BRIAN FEES
