SECTION 4 BOYS' SWIMMING & DIVING: CORNING WINS AT CLASS A MEET, HORSEHEADS 2ND AND ELMIRA 6TH (2025-02-23)
Southern Tier Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — The Corning boys won the team title at the Section IV, Class A boys’ swimming and diving championships, with Horseheads second.
Corning had a score of 527 with seven champions, three runner-ups and three third-place finishers and Horseheads was second at 418.5 with four runner-ups and four third-place finishers.
Elmira was sixth with one third-place finisher.
Corning won the 200 medley relay with a state-cut time of 1:39.97 with Horseheads second at 1:41.30. Elmira was sixth at 2:03.85.
Horseheads’ Kegan Monahan was fourth in the 200 free in 1:55.97 followed by Corning’s Keith Huff (1:57.73) and Jack Casper (1:59.33) and Kegan Kent of Horseheads (2:01.34). Diego Savash-Acuna of Horseheads was 10th in 2:01.63 followed by teammate Alexander Lotocky (2:02.01) and Corning’s Aaron Giardina (2:05.89) while Kyle Williams of Corning was 14th in 2:07.39.
Joey Crisco of Corning won the 200 IM in 2:01.69 followed by Thai Tran of Horseheads (2:05.48) with Derek Guo of Corning fourth in 2:14.25. MJ Carro of Horseheads was seventh in 2:16. Kaeden Martinez of Corning was ninth in 2:20.09 followed by Horseheads’ Joseph Wood in 2:21.68. Corning’s Winston Wu was 12th in 2:26.73 and Isaac Klesh of Horseheads was 15th in 2:35.40 followed by Elmira’s James Lovell in 2:35.90.
JP Sierzant of Corning was second in the 50 free in 22.64 followed by teammate Marvin Reimsnyder in 22.75 and Horseheads’ Devin Sullivan in 22.97. Liam Gill of Corning was sixth in 23.59 followed by teammate Mark Hong in 24.09.
Kiran Gulati of Horseheads was ninth in 23.90 followed by teammate Keegan Duart in 25.41. Avi Patel of Horseheads was 12th in 25.78.
Reimsnyder won the 100 fly in 54.74 with Thang Tran of Horseheads third in 56.57 followed by Corning’s Shawn De Pedro in 56.93 and Drake Ernst of Horseheads in 58.30. John McKane of Corning was seventh in 1:00.13. Liam Kane of Horseheads was 11th in 1:02.84 with Lovell 16th in 1:13.14.
Sierzant won the 100 free in 49.80 with Sullivan third in 51.34. Gulati was sixth in 52.47 with Hong eighth in 54.40. Gill was ninth in 52.50 followed by Kent in 54.74. Corning’s Ethan Yarnell was 12th in 56.91 followed by Duart in 57.02. 7.
Monahan was second in the 500 free in 5:19.64 followed by Huff (5:21.79) and Casper (5:22.95). Savash-Acuna was seventh in 5:41.85. Wood was ninth in 5:31.72 and Giardina was 12th in 5:47.57 followed by Lotocky in 5:50.47.
Corning won the 200 free relay in 1:30.78 and Horseheads was third in 1:33.23.
Thang Tran was second in the 100 back in 58.34 and McKane was third in 58.63. Carro was fifth in 1:01.2 followed by Yarnell in 1:01.89. Avi Patel of Horseheads was eighth in 1:03.36.
Martinez was ninth in 1:04.18 followed by Williams in 1:05.29.
Crisco won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.10, a state cut time and De Pedro was next in 1:01.58 followed by Thai Tran in 1:02.64. Guo was fifth in 1:08.08 followed by Wu in 1:11.11 and Kane was eighth in 1:12.64. Klesh was 10th in 1:13.49 and Elmira’s Dayne Bush was 15th in 1:20.28 followed by teammate Zxander Gabriel in 1:22.74.
Corning was second in the 400 free relay in 3:33.52 with Horseheads fourth in 3:38.72 and elmira was sixth in 4:12.22.
