BINGHAMTON — Horseheads had seven champions and Coleton Owen was named most outstanding wrestler as they won their fifth straight team title at the Section IV Division I Championships at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena on Sunday.

Horseheads won by over 100 points with a score of 275.5, topping Elmira’s 170.5.

Connor McAllister (101), Josh Knapp (108), Gavin Hornsby (131), Owen (160), Lucas Mosher (170), Hunter Lavigne (190) and Seamus Carroll (285) were all champions for the Blue Raiders.

Mason Vanderhoff (108) and Jonah Lamb gave Horseheads nine state qualifiers on the day as they made states as runner-up in weights that took two to states.

“Today was a great day for our program,” Horseheads coach Brett Owen said. “We won our fifth consecutive section title, had 10 guys reach the finals, are sending nine wrestlers to states and seven champions. We also had three guys come back and get third. That says a lot about their character and desire to fight back. It was a complete program effort today.”

McAllister won by technical fall 17-2 over Carter McKernan of Elmira in the final at 101.

McAllister had a pin in 1:01 and a 20-4 technical fall win to make the final.

Josh Knapp won by major decision 11-0 over his teammate Vandrhoff in the final at 108.

Knapp won 10-7 to get into the final, while Vanderhoff had pins in 56 seconds and in 3:34 to get into the final.

Tanner Knapp was edged 5-2 by Peyton Hubbard in the 116 final. Knapp had pins in 3:53 and 2:14 to get into the final.

Hornsby pinned Joey O’Connor of Chenango Forks in 2:00 in the 131 pound final. Hornsby had pins in 3:21 and 2:24 to get into the final.

Kole Zufall was third at 138. He won 8-3 over Grant MacRabie of Forks in the third-place match. Zufal had a. 7-1 win and a 14-11 win to get into the third-place match.

Jack Clate was third at 145 for the Blue Raiders. He won by major decision 13-2 over Kenzie Burke of Ithaca in the third-place match. Clate had an 18-2 technical fall win and a 2:27 pin to get into the third-place match.

Owen won 5-3 over Quentin Getzin of Ithaca in the final at 160. Owen had a 16-0 technical fall win in his first match and won 8-4 in the semifinals.

Seeing Coleton Owen named Most Outstanding Wrestler was special for his coach, and father.

“Coleton winning MOW was awesome,” Brett Owen said. “This was the third battle he had with Getzin and Getzin is a tough athlete. Coleton wrestled like he planned and was able to pull out the victory. He has some big wins recently. It was great for him to win his first sectional championship and the MOW. Definitely was a proud dad/coach moment.”

Mosher won in sudden victory 1 14-11 over Clayton Smith of Corning in the 170 final, while Jaxson Burchard was third. Burchard won 8-5 over Talton Ritter of Forks in the third-place match.

Mosher had two 15-0 technical fall wins to get into the final. Burchard had a 16-2 major decision win and a 16-0 technical fall win to get into the third-place match.

Lavigne pinned Evan Trusdale of Forks in 1:44 in the 190-pound final. Lavigne had a pin in 46 seconds to get into the final.

Lamb fell by fall in 3:22 to Kenyon Davidson in the 215 final. Lamb had pins in 59 and 53 seconds to get into the final.

Carroll pinned Tye Jashan in 5:00 in the 285 final. Carroll had a pin in 3:48 to get into the final.

Joel Scibek went 0-2 at 124. Allen Jenkins went 0-2 at 152.
