COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING: HORSEHEADS WINS FIRST STAC TITLE SINCE 2005 (2025-02-01)
Southern Tier Sports ReportJOHNSON CITY — The Horseheads cheerleading team won their first STAC Winter Championship in 20 years on Saturday.
The Blue Raiders won with a score of 85.50, topping Chenango Valley (78.30). The last overall STAC title for Horseheads was 2005.
U-E was third at 76.90, followed by host Johnson City at 74.40 and Chenango Forks at 65.60.
Elmira was seventh at 52.90 and Corning was 13th at 25.90.
“I am just so incredibly proud of our athletes and the growth and determination they have shown over the past year,” Horseheads coach Kayla Kuhns said. “Today was a big day for our program and a very special moment for this team. They are an extremely close gorup both on and off the mat, so it is so incredible to take home this big win as a family.”
For the Horseheads cheerleaders this was a magical moment.
“it is really special because our program hasn’t won this title in 20 years,” Madi Mustico said. ‘We’ve put in the work in for today over the past couple of weeks and it really showed today and I’m so proud of my team for all the hours psent into this routine and thankful for our coaches for pushing us to get us where we are to be able to win today.”
The Blue Raiders knew they faced some great teams, making this even more memorable.
“This win was extra special because it’s the first time Horseheads has won STAC since 2005,” Maggie Sullivan said. “We have been working so hard and the cohesiveness of this team is unmatched. The teams we face in this section are so talented and we really have to push ourselves to come out on top.
“Winning this title today was such an honor and I can’t wait to see what the rest of thse season holds for our team.”
In the modified division Horseheads also won the title with a score of 55.45, fopping Vestal (55.3) and M-E (50.35).
U-E won the JV at 72.4 followed by Vestal at 64.95 and Chenango Valley at 64.5.
