STAC BOYS' WRESTLING: HORSEHEADS WINS 4TH STRAIGHT STAC TITLE AS LAVIGNE CLAIMS 190-POUND TITLE (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-25)
Southern Tier Sports Report JOHNSON CITY —— The Horseheads wrestling team dominated their way to a fourth straight STAC Championship, topping the field by nearly 80 poinds on Saturday.
Horseheads won at 247 points, with Waverly second at 169.5. Only two teams, Maine-Endwell was third at 168, finished within 140 points of the Blue Raiders.
Hunter Lavigne won the title at 190, while teammate Jonah Lamb was fourth.
Lavigne pinned Logan McGuire in 5:29 in the title match. Lamb was edged 9-6 by Chenango Valley’s Brennen Riquier in the third-place match. Lavigne pinned his way to the final with falls in 2:51 and 2:35 in the quarterfinals and semifinals.
Coleton Owen was runner-up at 160, being edged by ultimate tiebreaker 3-2 to Quentin Getzin of Ithaca in the title match.
Mason Vanderhoff was runner-up and Connor McAllister third at 101. Vanderhoff fell in the title match by technical fall 21-4 in 5:59 to Clayton Ritter of Oneonta. McAllister topped Vitaly Sirotkin of Owego 3-0 in the third-place match.
Lucas Mosher was runner-up at 170 and Jaxson Burchard finished third. Mosher fell 10-6 in the title match to Mark Winchell of Maine-Endwell and Burchard won by medical forfeit over Windsor’s Mathew Boyce in the third-place match.
Josh Knapp was runner-up at 108. He fell to Dylan Newman of Windsor 8-3 in the title match.
Tanner Knapp was third at 116. He won by major decision 17-4 over Rasheed Scott of Binghamton in the third-place match.
Gavin Hornsby took fourth at 131. He fell to Evan Merrell of Maine-Endwell by fall in 2:55 in the third-place match.
Zachary Schrage took sixth at 152. He medically forfeited his fifth-place match.
