COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL: ELMIRA'S WOODARD HELPS EC TOP CORNING'S CASEY AND GENESEO AS BOTH HAVE BIG GAMES (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-20)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA —— The Elmira College Soaring Eagles finished their SUNY weekend with a 92-85 win over the Geneseo Knights over the weekend. A 55-point second half fueled EC to its first win of the season.
On Monday the Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners and Elmira graduate Chris Woodard earned his second Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
Woodard started two of three games and averaged 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. The freshman also shot just above a 53% (17-32) clip for the week.
The Elmira, NY product logged a career-high 28 minutes in Saturday's 92-85 win over SUNY Geneseo. He also set career-highs in blocks (1, vs. SUNY Brockport), steals (3, vs. Sage), and assists (3, vs. Brockport) during the week.
Corning graduate Jackson Casey started for Geneseo and had a career-best game with assists Elmira. Casey, who has started the past three games for Geneseo, played 31 minutes. He had 10 assists in the game. The previous career-high for Casey was four, set last year against Cortland.

HOW IT HAPPENED:An outstanding shooting night from Elmira was huge in the winning effort. 55.7% (34-61) from the field overall and a 65.5% (19-29) clip in the second half helped the Soaring Eagles salvage the final game of their SUNY weekend.
Five players registered double-digit point games for EC in the people of Riley Spencer '25 (18), Kelton Brown '28, Tyler Cardello '26 (17 each), Chris Woodard '28 (16), and JJ Babcock '26 (13).
It's the third game in a row that Spencer has finished with at least 18 points, as he posted 19 on Jan. 14 at Sage and 20 at home last night against the Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport.
Babcock also finished with a team- and game-high nine rebounds. Brown and Woodard also chipped in on the glass, finishing with six boards each.
Brown's seven assists are good for a new career-high. Babcock dished out four dimes and Carter Seeberger '26 notched three helpers in his 12 minutes of action.
UP NEXT:The Soaring Eagles will have almost a week off before returning to action on Friday, Jan. 24. EC will be back on the road to take on the Golden Flyers of Nazareth. Opening tip is slated for 7:30 PM.
