Spencer-VanEtten / Candor junior Tayah Beach, and Williamson freshman Zander Wilson each won their weight classes at the Southern Tier Memorial. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Jan. 11.

SVEC'S BEACH NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM GIRLS REGIONAL "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Beach was 5-0 on her way to the 120-pound title at the Southern Tier Memorial.

Beach had four first-period pins — all in 1:55 or less, and a technical fall.

Beach decked Homer's Mya Locke in 29 seconds in the finals.

Honorable Mentions: Candor's Emmi Makie (basketball), Athens' Evelyn Panek (swimming), Corning's Cella McLaughlin (indoor track & field), and NEB's Lillie Maynard (basketball).

WILLIAMSON'S WILSON NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM BOYS REGIONAL "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Wilson, who was 8-0 on the week, reeled off five wins to win the 108-pound title at the Southern Tier Memorial.

Wilson won his first two matches by fall, then forged a 20-2 technical fall in the quarterfinals.

Wilson won an 8-5 overtime decision over highly-regarded Brady Maneri of Auburn in the semifinals, then beat Haverling's Lukas Mills-Travis 9-3 in the finals.

Wilson, who 19-0 on the season, also picked up wins over Wellsboro, NEB, and Wyalusing in duals during the week.
