HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: LOCALS FIND SUCCESS AT WINTER CLASSIC (2025-01-12)

CORTLAND — The Elmira boys took fourth at the Winter Classic track and field meet, while they were sixth on the girls side.

Horseheads was 15th for the boys and Edison was 19th. Notre Dame was eighth for the girls and Edison was 18th.

For the boys in the long jump Carver Robbins of Horseheads was fifth at 18-feet, 8 3/4-inches and Elmira’s Chase Smith was seventh at 8-feet, 1 1/4-inches while teammate John-Charles Walton was ninth at 16-feet, 9 1/2-inches.

On the girls side Caitlin Keenan of Notre Dame was eighth in the long jump at 12-feet, 10 1/4-inches followed by Elmira’s Azavyanna Morgan at 12-feet, 9 3/4-inches. Edison’s Sabou Diakite was 13th at 12-feet, 3 1/2-inches and Horseheads’ Ella Scibek was 15th at 11-feet, 11 1/4-inches, while Natalie Spier of Edison was 18th at 10-feet, 11 3/4-inches.

Ari Newton was seventh in the 55 meters in 8.19 and Zoey McClelland of Notre Dame was 14th in 8.49, while Edison’s Isabella Lamb was 16th in 8.57. Horseheads’ Cameron Woodward was 20th in 8.77.

CJ Coprew of Elmira won the 55 meters in 6.75 with Edison’s Nikko Cheplick fifth in 7.08. Horseheads’ Liam Morrisey was ninth in 7.20.

Elmira’s Millie Kierst was 12th in the 3000 in 14:31.47 with teammate Marriah Faucett 15th in 15:55.84.

Dominick Marino of Horseheads was ffith in the 3200 in 11:19.88 and Elmira’s Ayden Coleman was eighth in 11:31.77. Notre Dame’s Cameron Kraft was 15th in 12:55.45 with Elmira’s Wally Ferriter 17th in 13:11.73.

Elmira’s Ella Devlin was second in the 800 in 2:38.69 while Keenan was 14th in 2:53.52 and teammate Lylie Colunio was 17th in 2:57.35.

Elmria’s Hayden Rolls was 18th in the boys’ 800 in 2:19.05 and Edison’s Hannah Lasko was second in the 400 in 1:04.77 and Elmira’s Azavyanna Morgan was 15th in 1:13.99 and Elise Gulati of Horseheads was 17th in 1:14.08.

Braxton Houghtelling of Elmira was eighth in the 400 in 57.14 while teamate Jadon Lagonegro was 10th in 57.76. Robbins was 17th in 59.65 and Augustus Ector of Edison was 20th in 1:00.42.

Walton was seventh in the boys’ 55 hurdles in 10.09 and Donato Dos Reis of Elmira was 13th in 11.34.

Makenna Keough of Notre Dame won the girls’ 55 hurdles in 8.87 with McClelland ninth in 11.13.

Elmira’s Madelyn Wise was third in the girls’ 1500 in 5:32.12. Molly Doran of Elmira was ninth in 5:51.59.

Jameson Duggan of Edison was 10th in the 1600 in 5:21.62 and Notre Dame’s Isabella Mashewske was 14th in the 200 in 30.06 followed by Edison’s Emily Aiello in 30.25.

Coprew won the 200 in 23.58 followed by teammate Ta’hjay Molina-Bacome in 24.25. Josh Wilson of Horseheads was ninth in 25.18 while Cheplick was 15th in 25.65.

Mashewske was tied for sixth in the high jump at 4-feet, 7-inches. Tahje Parker-Small of Elmira was fourth in the boys’ high jump at 5-feet, 4-inches while Antonio Campanella of NOtre Dame was seventh at the same height. Evan Parker of Notre Dame was 14th at 4-feet, 10-inches and Darien Coprew of Elmira was tied for 15th at the same height.

Verneece Sumner of Elmira was ninth in the shot put at 25-feet, 6 1/2-inches and Lilly Moore of Notre Dame was 20th at 21-feet, 2 1/2-inches.

Darien Coprew was ninth in the boys’ triple jump at 34-feet, 6-inches and Horseheads’ Jarryd Witzel was 13th at 33-feet, 1 1/2-inches.

Keough was second in the girls’ triple jump at 35-feet, 3 1/2-inches followed by Naudia Inness of Elmira at 30-feet, 11 1/2-inches. Diakite was ninth at 26-feet, 10-inches.
