HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING BOYS AND GIRLS WIN HURLEY INVITE TITLES (24 PHOTOS) (2025-01-04)
Southern Tier Sports ReportITHACA — The Corning boys and girls track and field teams won the Hurley Invitational at Ithaca College over the weekend.
The girls won at 120 poinds. Notre Dame was eighth at 24, Horseheads was 10th at 21 points, and Elmira took 16th at 12 points.
On the boys side Corning had 109 points to win. Horseheads was fourth at 47.5 and Elmira took ninth at 12 points, while Notre Dame finished 13th at five points.
In the girls 55 meters Corning’s Mattisen Johnston finished third in 7.53 and Mylynn Flint of Horseheads was ninth in 7.84. Corning’s Lauren DeRosa was 12th in 7.86 and Notre Dame’s Eleanor Green was 14th in 7.88, while Kaylee Scolaro of Corning took 19th in 8.02 and Emily Aiello of Edison was 25th in 8.16.
Zuri Ruffin of Corning won the 55 for the boys in 6.56 followed by Horseheads’ Chase Luangsuwan (6.67). Logan Durand of Corning was fourth in 6.80 followed by Horseheads’ Patrick Laney (6.87). Corning’s NIcholas Brucie was seventh at 6.94. Edison’s Nikko Cheplick was 17th in 7.12 and Connor Trimber of Horseheads was 20th in 7.16 and teammate Josh Wilson was 22nd in 7.17.
Elmira’s Madelyn Wise was second in the 3000 in 12:03.92 followed by Corning’s Lillian Deuerlein (12:27.33). Corning’s Kendall Curreri was fifth in 12:29.77.
Nicholas Kowal of Horseheads took third in the 3200 in 10:28.40 with Notre Dame’s Gavin Meier sixth in 10:58.83 followed by Horseheads’ Luke Dordoni (10:59.08) and Corning’s Samuel Kirk (11:04.31) and Ashtyn Stark (11:04.70). Michael Naylor of Corning was 12th in 11:09.26 followed by Nicholas Ferratella (11:17.77). Dominick Marino of Horseheads was 15th in 11:26.18 and Edison’s Jameson Duggan was 18th in 11:57.40.
In the girls’ 1000 meters Olivia Martinec of Corning was fourth in 3:24.21 followed by Horseheads’ Sonya Dordoni in 3:26.56. Horseheads’ Suzanne Sydlansky (3:27.37) and Cecilia Cowen (3:27.55) took seventh and eighth and Corning’s Bella Beres (3:45.45) was 18th. Edison’s Mayla Falank was 25th in 3:59.70.
Gregory HOma of Corning was esecond in the boys’ 1000 in 2:41.97 followed by teammate Bryce Hammond (2:42.44). Corning’s Sebastian Boutwell (2:50.03) was eighth followed by teammate Jaxyn Mahoney (2:52.01). Elmira’s Hayden Rolls was 18th in 3:01.68.
Kyra Gross was fourth in the girls’ 600 in 1:47.18 with teammate Reese Conway 11th in 1:55.91. Notre Dame’s Caitlin Keenan was 21st in 2:00.94.
Brycen Nale of Corning was 19th in the boys’ 600 in 1:36 with teammate Dylan Currie 21st in 1:36.35. Kowal was 25th in 1:38.17.
Martinec was third in the girls’ 1500 in 5:16.50 followed by Elmira’s Ella Devlin (5:17.82). Corning’s Madie Sweet was 11th in 5:48.03. Horseheads’ Sophia Christmas was 19th in 6:09.88.
Homa was third in the boys’ 1600 in 4:39.63 followed by Hammond (4:47.28). Boutwell was sixth in 4:52.21 followed by Horseheads’ Allen Wetmore (4:53.51). Horseheads’ Max Williams was ninth in 5:01.30 followed by Corning’s Christopher Lawson (5:03.54) and Jack Sydlansky of Horseheads (5:04.50). Ayden Coleman of Elmira was 25th in 5:26.32.
In the girls’ 300 meters Brooklyn Gordon of Corning was eighth in 45.69 followed by teammate Leila Ianovici (45.77) and Hannah Lasko of Edison (45.77). Corning’s Laina Gardner was 16th in 47.04 and Aurora Jellif of Corning was 18th in 47.19 followed by Horseheads’ Sophie Shutter in 48.20. Elmira’s Arrianna Jones was 23rd in 48.83 followed by Notre Dame’s Lylie Colunio in 49.00.
Corning’s Wyatt McDonald was third in the boys’ 300 in 37.53 followed by teammate Dexter Badger in 37.78 followed by Elmira’s Ta’hjay Molina-Bacome in 37.78. Elmira’s DJ Coprew (37.98) followed by teammate Khiden Swanger (38.53). Elmira’s Jadon Lagonegro was 12th in 39.01. Lochlan Gill of Corning was 18th in 39.76 with teammate Jayden Moore 21st in 40.06.
Horseheads won the girls’ 3200 relay in 11:15.29 followed by Corning in 11:17.71. Elmira took seventh at 12:25.11 with Edison 10th in 14:02.67.
For the boys in the 3200 relay Horseheads was fourth at 9:20.70 and Corning was sixth in 9:49.65 followed by Elmira in 10:12.70.
Corning won the girls’ 4x200 relay in 1:49.09 and Horseheads was sixth in 1:58.09 and Elmira took 10th in 2:01.67, while Notre Dame finished 12th in 2:02.38. Edison was 18th in 2:05.33.
Corning won the boys’ 4x200 relay in 1:34.32 followed by Elmira (1:35.13) and Horseheads (1:38.18).
Maxwell Jennings took second in the boys’ pole vault at 12-feet, 6-inches with teammate Ethan Wentzel fourth at 12-feet. Corning’s Jacob Deneka was ninth at 10-feet and Connor Calkins of Corning took 13th at 8-feet.
Conway took second for the Hawks in the girls’ pole vault at 9-feet, 6-inches and teammate Lauren Williams was eighth at 6-feet, 6-inches.
Jordan Gridley and Corning teammate Sweet tied for sixth in the high jump at 4-feet, 6-inches with Hadley Murray 10th at 4-feet, 6-inches. Notre Dame’s Isabella Mashewske was 12th at 4-feet, 3-inches.
Corning’s Jayden Moore was third in the high jump at 5-feet, 3-inches followed by Notre Dame’s Antonio Campanella and Marshall Allen of Corning,a ll at the same heights. Parker Jacobus of Corning was tied for 10th at 5-feet with Elmira’s Darien Coprew 13th at the same height. Notre Dame’s Evan Parker was 18th at 4-feet, 9-inches followed by Corning’s Avery Wilcox at the same height. Elmira’s Donato Dos Reis was 26th at 4-feet, 3-inches.
Horseheads’ Calvin Cragle was third in the shot put at 44-feet, 6 3/4-inches with teammate Joseph Biviano fifth at 40-feet, 6 1/4-inches. Corning’s Jacob Blencowe was 10th at 38-feet, 10 1/4-inches while teammate Logan Mullaney was 13th at 36-feet, 9 3/4-inches followed by teammate Freddie Collins (36-feet, 5 1/4-inches). Benjamin Herrmann of Corning was 20th at 35-feet, 1/2-inches.
Sophia Cimo of Corning was fourth in the girls’ shot put at 30-feet, 6 3/4-inches followed by teammate Samantha Harvey at 30-feet, 5 1/2-inches. Corning’s Kaydence Ector was 10th at 29-feet, 5 3/4-inches and Elmira’s Verneece Sumner was 15th at 26-feet, 6 1/4-inches. Madelane Reynolds of Corning was 24th at 23-feet, 7 1/2-inches.
Cella McLaughlin won the long jump for the girls at 17-feet, 11 3/4-inches and Makenna Keough of Notre Dame was fourth at 16-feet, 3 1/2-inches followed by Corning’s Johnston at 15-feet, 11 1/2-inches. Corning’s DeRosa was 11th at 14-feet, 8 1/2-inches and Horseheads’ Madison Bancroft was 13th at 14-feet, 3/4/-inches followed by Corning’s Emma Mase (13-feet, 10 1/2-inches. Elmira’s Azavyanna Morgan was 15th at 13-feet, 9 1/4-inches.
Zuri Ruffin won the long jump for the boys at 22-feet, 4-inches followed by Badger at 20-feet, 10 1/4-inches. Horseheads’ Marco Cipolla was sixth at 18-feet, 8-inches while Carver Robbins of Horseheads was 10th at 18-feet, 2 1/4-inches. Notre Dame’s Campanella was 12th at 17-feet, 11 3/4-inches followed by Corning’s Joshua Fajardo at 17-feet, 5-inches and Elmira’s John-Charles Walton at 17-feet, 3 1/2-inches.
Trimber was fourth in the boys’ triple jump at 39-feet, 8 3/4-inches with Corning’s Fajardo ninth at 36-feet, 2 3/4-inches. Corning’s Coleten Ketchum was 16th at 33-feet, 4 3/4-inches followed by Elmira’s Darien Corprew at 32-feet, 11 3/4-inches and teammate Benjamin Marshall at 32-feet, 1 1/2-inches.
Keough was second in the girls’ triple jump at 35-feet, followed by Corning’s Claire Devlin at 33-feet, 2 1/4-inches, Notre Dame’s Green at 32-feet, 2 1/4-inches and Gridley of Corning at 31-feet, 10 3/4-inches. Corning’s Alisyn Conway was seventh at 30-feet, 11 1/2-inches. Horseheads’ Bancroft was 11th at 28-feet, 9 1/2-inches while Elmira’s Naudia Inness was 13th at 28-feet, 6 1/4-inches followed by Edison’s Sabou Diakite at 14th at 28-feet, 4 1/4-inches. Corning’s Veronica Nevins was 18th at 27-feet, 9 1/4-inches.
Horseheads took sixth in the girls’ 1600 relay in 5:06.31 and Corning’s boys’ 1600 relay was fourth at 3:58.24 with Edison eighth at 4:15.84. Horseheads was 11th at 4:21.30 and Notre Dame was 19th at 4:51.85.
Mullaney was second in the boys’ weight throw at 49-feet, 11 1/4-inches with teammate Herrmann sixth at 47-feet, 3 1/4-inches and Collins next at 46-feet, 8-inches. Kai Huttleston of Corning was ninth at 45-feet, 5 1/4-inches and Drue Welty of Horseheas was 18th at 32-feet, 1-inch, while Brogan McLaughlin of Horseheads was 22nd at 28-feet, 5 1/2-inches.
Cimo won the girls’ weight throw at 43-feet, 5 3/4-inches with teammate Harvey third at 39-feet, 7 1/2-inches. Reynolds was fifth at 35-feet, 5-inches and Ector was 10th at 28-feet, 7 1/4-inches. Amelia Reed of Horsreheads was 20th at 20-fee,t 8 3/4-inches and Makenna Koehler was 25th at 13-feet, 7 1/2-inches.
Stella Harrison of Horseheasd was runner-up in the girls’ 1500 racewalk in 8:05.92 followed by Corning’s Madeline Kirk at 9:04.15. Corning’s Bethany Morey was sixth in 9:50.39 followed by teammate Lillian Ouyang at 10:03.89. Corning’s Adeline Somma was 10th at 11:00.50 while Edison’s Olivia Vinsek was 13th at 11:37.35.
Carlo Cipolla of Horseheads was second in the 55 hurdles in 8.00. Allen was 10th in 9.27 and Elmira’s Walton was 15th in 10:38. Connor Calkins of Corning was 19th at 10.77 while Elmira’s Benjamin Marshall was 22nd in 11.01 and Donnie Martin of Corning was 24th at 11.40 followed by Donato os Reis of Elmira at 11.47.
McLaughlin won the girls’ 55 hurdles in 8.20 followed by Keough (8.98) and Claire Devlin at 9.29. Alisyn Conway was 14th in 10.41 followed by Bancroft (10.50) and Chinonyerem Okoro of Corning was 17th in 10.59. Notre Dame’s Zoey McClelland was 19th in 10.90 and Shutter was 22nd in 11.01. Morgan was 23rd for Elmira in 11.04.
