HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: CHURCH BECOMES FIRST ALL-AMERICAN IN HORSEHEADS PROGRAM HISTORY (2024-12-10)
Southern Tier Sports ReportHorseheads senior Ben Church made program history as he was named to the USC All-American team for boys’ soccer.
Church is the first player in Horseheads program history to earn All-American honors.
Curch is a Division I commit who is headed to Binghamton next year. One of only two All-Region selections from Section 4 and the only defender on the list.
Horseheads six losses were mostly one-goal games and all came against state-ranked teams. While the team struggled offensively at times the defense was solid and Church anchored the back.
Church shut down attacks through the middle, is strong on the tackle, wins most 50/50 balls in the air and goes hard on every challenge.
Offensively Church had six goals and four assists.
He was a 2024 All-Region pick, and a STAC Metro-West All-Star. Last year he was also on the STAC Metro-West all-star team, made all-state and is the two-time all-Southern Tier Sports Report Defensive Player of the Year.
