INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: ELMIRA EXPRESS READY TO KICK OFF SEASON (2021-11-27)

The Elmira indoor track and field team is ready to kick off the season today with a meet at Ithaca College.

The Express had success in cross country season and now they look for many of those same runners to carry that success into the track and field season.

Head coach: David Perkins
Assistant coaches: Amy Balash, Corrine Taylor, Jalasia Remember.
Returning athletes: Emma Barends, So, Distance; Emma Beach, so. Hurdles; Vicky Mordvinova, Jr. (XC state qualifier, 90th out of 285 runners at states as well as a Federations qualifier); Ashleigh Bertlesan, Sr., thrower.
Thoughts on returning athletes: Our athletes are young, yet experienced in their events, hard and smart workers.
Newcomers: Cheyenne Faucette, So., distance; Ben Allen,  Sr., distance (XC state qualifier); Caleb Bollinger, Jr., distance; Don Bollinger, So, sprints/jumps; Nicholas Bowes, So, mid-distance; Amelio Casciotti, Sr., hurdles; Nasir King, Sr., distance; Cal Marks, Sr., thrower; Isaac May, Sr., distance; Dylan Names, Jr., distance; Owen Weigle, Jr., jumps, 400, sprints.
Thoughts on newcomers: Are very hungry in learning their events. Hardworking and are willing to take a chance in something new.
Thoughts on the team this year: Looking forward to seeing what Elmira can do with being off from indoor track for over a year. Keeping an eye on our distance athletes with the help of coach Balash, on how their times are going to be. Looking forward to Vicky Mordvinova, our cross country runner who made it to states and federations in the fall, as well as our 11th grader Owen Weigle, who scored consistently in the jumps and the 400 meters during the Spring season. He is very hungry for success and works very hard at practice to be successful.
Athletes competing in college: Lizzy Ostrander (Lock Haven) and Jason Matthewson (Mansfield).
