By Brian Fees
Southern Tier Sports Report
Notre Dame made a run to a regional final, and senior Makenna Keough led the way, earning all-Southern Tier Sports Report Player of the Year honors.

Keough’s teammate MK Young is the offensive player of the year, while Katie Miley of Horseheads is the defensive player of the year.

Elmira’s Delaney Billbe is the newcomer of the year along with Sydney Blunt of Horseheads, and Maddie Ribble of Horseheads is the most dangerous player, while Kevin & Steve Weber of Edison are the coaching staff of the year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
MAKENNA KEOUGH, Notre Dame
* The Crusaders senior had a big year to help the Notre Dame girls’ soccer team reach the regional final. Keough had 22 goals and 16 assists this year, Keough led all area players in scoring on the season.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Katie Miley, Horseheads
* Junior center back and captain, all conference, previously on southern tier team, although more defensively rolled this year the Blue Raiders don’t have the same success this year without her work on and off the field both as a player and a leader. Multiple break away denials, two goal line clearances to save goals, and countless one on one tackles and blocks in the defense. Had two assists on the year.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: MK Young, Notre Dame
* Had an area-best 24 goals this year, along with 10 assists for the Crusaders as they reached a regional final.
CO- NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Delaney Billbe, Elmira
* An eighth-grader was one of the best goalkeepers in the STAC. She had eight shutouts on the year and a handful of big saves every game for the Express, many of them game-changing or game-saving saves.
Sydney Blunt, Horseheads
* Had six goals and seven assists this year. Sophomore Striker, all STAC West pick. Fast and athletic she gave the Blue Raiders goals to beat the two top teams in the division.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Kevin Weber & Steve Weber, Edison
* The Spartans won just one game in their first season. However, the improvement through the year was something impressive. Only one player on the roster had ever even played travel soccer and none had ever played high school soccer. Throughout the second half of the season each of the Spartans losses from the first half were far more competitive the second time.
MOST DANGEROUS: Maddie Ribble, Horseheads
* Had nine goals and three assists as a sophomore. Striker, team leader in goals, all-conference player. Her speed and athleticism up front helped Horseheads play their game and keep people on their toes.
