HORSEHEADS — The Blue Raiders girls’ basketball team faced some tough competition as they gear up for the season as they welcomed Norwich for a scrimmage on Friday.

“We scrimmage Norwich every year because they are a perennial power in the STAC,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “This year they have a senior heavy squad with a lot of very talented and experienced players. This is a great early test to see how we handle things like physicality, speed and decision making.”

Scott was happy with what he saw from his team and he believes they are getting better as they head toward the start of the season.

“I was happy with how we competed today,” Scott said. “We are going to make mistakes, especially this early in the season, but the one thing we can always control is our effort and intensity level. That was full go all day today.

“I thought we competed for six quarters and have plenty of things to improve on this week in practice. Our inside game is getting stronger and that was evident today. If they continue to progress, it will only help our shooters as well.”
