STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: CORNING'S MARTINEC AND MAHONEY (2024-11-14)

Southern Tier Sports Report
There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the first athlete of the week honors of the season. In the end, it was Corning’s Olivia Martinec and Jaxyn Mahoney who were named the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

OLIVIA MARTINEC
Corning, Girls’ XC
Had a third-place finish at the Section IV Cross Country Championships to lead Corning to the Class A title.

Martinec was third in the Class A race in 19:57. Her time was also third overall in the merged results among all classes, a total of 180 runners.

JAXYN MAHONEY
Corning, Boys’ Cross Country
Had a third-place finish in Class A cross country, and a fourth-place finish in the overall merged results of all classes at the Section IV Cross Country championships.

Mahoney finished in 16:28.1, just one second off second place in the Class A race. He was fourth among 248 runners in the merged results.
