SECTION 4 VOLLEYBALL: 7TH SEEDED EDISON ADVANCES TO SECTIONAL FINAL (24 PHOTOS) (2024-11-08)
By Brian FeesSouthern Tier Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Everything came down to one set on Thursday night and the Edison volleyball came through, advancing to the Section 4 Championship in Class C.
After tying Trumansburg at 3-3 in pool play for the semifinals the Spartans won 25-13 in a one-set tiebreaker to advance to states. Tioga earned the other spot in the final. The two teams meet at 11 a.m. at Tioga on Saturday in the final.
“We have been working for this all season and we fought really hard today against some really great teams,” Maycie Bennett said. “I am so proud of my team. We are all so excited for the final and are going to go out and play as hard as we can.”
For the Spartans it was special to move on. Edison was the 7th seed when sectionals started.
“I’m really happy that we won,” Charlee Stroman said. “It was so exciting and I’m so proud of my team. We played so well together and we all worked really hard. I’m excited to play on Saturday and hoping for a big win.”
Edison was 3-3 in pool play, falling to Tioga 25-3, 25-22, topping Spencer Van-Etten 25-14, 25-16 and splitting with Trumansburg 20-25, 26-24.
“Tonight was an amazing night,” Kailey Ripley said. “Our team showed up and we’re pumped to be there. We’re very excited for Saturday and hope to keep the season going.”
It was a total team effort by Edison on the day.
“I think we played really hard and good together tonight,” Mali Huffner said.
Trumansburg fell to Tioga 25-22 and 25-11, they split with Spencer 24-26, 25-18 and then split with Edison.
Tioga was 6-0 on the day, topping SVE 25-17, 25-10 in their other match.
