SECTION 4 GIRLS' SWIMMING & DIVING: LOCALS SHINE IN CLASS A PRELIMS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-11-06)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — Area swim teams found success during the prelims for the Section 4, Class A Championships.
Horseheads is the top seed in the 200 medley relay after the prelims as Gabrielle Janeski, Sibby Lowe, Anna Lowe and Karina Lapierre won in 1:53.53. Corning’s Erika Liu, Alyssa Reimsnyder, Maria Kuksenkova and Alexys Nale were third in 2:00.14 and Elmira’s Madelyn Cavalier, Maren Novotny, Ava Sherman and Eleanor Hagan took fifth in 2:09.53.
In the 200 free Corning’s Devin Price was third in the prelims to make the A final in 2:06.50 followed by Horseheads’ Elise Levantovich (2:07.94) and Genevieve Carro (2:10.47).
Lily Hall of Horseheads was seventh in 2:11.54 followed by Ellie Ballard of Corning in 2:14.92.
Horseheads’ Jackie Mayotte made the B final, finishing 10th in the prelims in 2:16.95 and Elmira’s Payton Dotts was 14th in 2:27.45.
Mia Carro was second in the prelims in the 200 IM in 2:20.37 and Ali Mosher of Horseheads was fourth in 2:26.33. Ava Klesh of Horseheads was seventh in 2:36.93 followed by Lauren Mahon of Corning in 2:37.03.
Bridget Hagan of Elmira was 12th in 2:46.62 followed by Ava Knowlton of Horseheads in 2:48.63 with Elmira’s Harper Andzulis 15th in 3:08.14.
Corning’s Clara Skarbek was 17th in 3:13.52 followed by teammate Brynnley Brodeur in 3:17.81.
Anna Lowe of Horseheads was first in the 50 free in 24.41 followed by Sibby Lowe (24.51) and Nale (25.30). Corning’s Kuksenkova was fifth in 26.16. Corning’s Morgan Dahlman was ninth in 27.20 followed by teammate Reimsnyder (27.71) and MacKenzie Grover of Horseheads (27.93). Horseheads’ Lillian Spicher was 14th in 28.83 followed by Elmira’s Eleanor Hagan (29.07). Alana Brink of Elmira was 18th in 31.78.
In the 100 fly Sibby Lowe was first in 59.97 followed by Mia Carro in 1:01.65. Reimsnyder was fourth in 1:06.99 followed by Gabrielle Janeski of Horseheads in 1:07.07 followed by Cavalier (1:07.23).
Olivia Schwab of Horseheads was 10th in 1:11.94 and Elmira’s Aubrey Newkirk was 12th in 1:17.33 followed by Kaydence Green in 1:18.76 followed by Bridget Hagan of Elmira in 1:19.24.
Corning’s Clara Skarbek was 19th in 1:42.33.
Anna Lowe was first in the 100 free in 54.21 followed by Price in 57.17 and Kuksenkova was fifth in 58.04. Horseheads’ Becka Hutcheson was seventh in 59.56. Reese Conway of Corning was ninth in 1:01.74 followed by Liu in 1:01.97 and Grover in 1:02.98. Novotny was 14th in 1:04.81. Elmira’s Leah Church was 17th in 1:06.53 followed by teammate Ellie Johnson (1:07.86). Alyssa Murphy of Elmira was 23rd in 1:11.94.
Levantovich was third in the 500 free in 5:49.14 followed by Hall in 5:51.33. Ballard was seventh in 5:56.56. Mayotte was 10th in 6:06.78 followed by Sherman in 6:16.08. Grace Kio of Corning was 15th in 6:50.15. Andrea Marjanovic of Corning was 19th in 7:24.95 followed by Clare Pedicone in 8:11.47.
In the 200 free relay Mia Carro, Sibby Lowe, Janeski and Anna Lowe were first in 1:40.64 with Corning’s Price, Kuksenkova, Reimsnyder and Ballard third in 1:51.02. Eleanor Hagan, Green, Newkirk and Johnson took seventh for Elmira in 2:01.81.
Lapierre was first in the 100 back prelims in 1:01.43 followed by Mosher in 1:02.45. Nicole Miller of Corning was fifth in 1:06.72. Conway was seventh in 1:07.67 followed by Dahlman in 1:07.69. Cavalier was ninth in 1:09.73 and Horseheads’ Schwab was 11th in 1:13.06 followed by teammate Caroline Wilcox in 1:13.73. Dotts was 13th in 1:15.40 followed by teammate Scarlett Hollenbeck in 1:18.81. Yen Tran of Horseheads was 18th in 1:25 followed by Elmira’s Alana Brink in 1:28.73.
Nale was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.72 and Liu was fifth in 1:17 followed by Janeski (1:17.88) and Genevieve Carro (1:19.20). Hutcheson was 10th in 1:22.83 by Klesh (1:23.68). Mahon was 13th in 1:24.21. Grace Kio of Corning was 15th in 1:25.80 followed by Newkirk (1:25.80) and Novotny (1:27.52). Eleanor Hagan was 21st in 1:31.33 with Murphy 23rd in 1:36.14.
Mia Carro, Lapierre, Mosher and Levantovich were second in the 400 free relay in 3:58.46 followed by Corning’s Ballard, Price, Liu and Nale in 4:06.71. Sherman, Johnson, Novotny and Cavalier took fifth in 4:27.80.
