HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: DOWN 3-0, ELMIRA RALLIES BACK TO 3-2, BUT FALLS IN SUB-REGIONALS (2024-11-06)
Southern Tier Sports ReportMONTROSE — Down 3-0, the Elmira Express fought back within 3-2, but fell to Scarsdale 5-2 in the sub-regional round on Wednesday night.
Midway through the first half Scarsdale scored back-to-back goals. They led 3-0, before Luca Capilli scored for Elmira with 4:14 left in the half to make it 3-1 at the break.
Lev Stahl, Lorenzo Galeano and PJ Rosenthal scored for Scarsdale.
Spencer Wheeler scored with 35:13 left to get Elmira within 3-2.
Will McAllister scored midway through the second half to go up 4-2 and he scored again to cap the scoring.
Landon Cook had an assist for Elmira in the game.
“Proud of our boys not just tonight, but on the season as well,” Elmira coach Derek Hamilton said. “We fought through some adversity, being such a young team, and ended up playing our best soccer at the end of the season.
“Quality teams stay connected throughout a season and find ways to win when they matter most. We were able to do that this season.”
