SECTION 4 GIRLS' SOCCER: CORNING FALLS TO ITHACA IN SECTIONAL FINAL (24 PHOTOS) (2024-11-02)
Southern Tier Sports Report ITHACA — After a scoreless first half the Ithaca Little Red scored three second-half goals to win the Class AAA girls title 3-0 over Corning.
Eliza DeRito scored at 30:42 off an assist from Alma Lopez after dishing off a fee from Aicha Cisse to DeRito who scored to the bottom right corner.
With 16:43 left DeRito scored off a breakaway and then with 7:01 left Rumi Blizzard scored off a rebound near the goal.
Ithaca had 12 shots, while Corning had four in the game.
“A tale of two halves,” Corning coach Julie Pierce said. “We came out strong in the first half and played some of the best soccer we have played all season. In the second half, we came out flat, and things got a little frantic. We did not adjust to the pace, and Ithaca is a great team. They capitalized on our miscommunication.
“I am proud of the way we closed out our season. Our seniors are incredible humans who will be missed. Rukma Chadhry had eight saves in goal in the second half. We held them to one shot in the first half.” ———— PHOTOS BY SHEILA SUTTON.
