HORSEHEADS — After a week of practicing against themselves, it was nice for the Horseheads girls to face someone else on Tuesday as they scrimmaged Dansville.

“It was awesome being able to get back to normal and scrimmage today,” Horseheads coach Andy Scott said. “The girls were excited to see another team and try and gauge where we were at. The kids played hard and got after it.”

For the Blue Raiders the biggest thing on Tuesday was that the girls played with a lot of energy on the court.

“We played decent, but have a ton to work on,” Scott said. “But, most importantly, the effort, and energy level were both there. The kids have great attitudes and have that team first mentality.

“The unselfish play and making the extra pass were reasons we saw success. Shooting should be a strength, but I’m really happy with the improvement with the inside game as well.”

Horseheads knows they will run into tough competition this year, and the attitude on Tuesday will take them a long way.

“We have a very tough league and non-league schedule, but with the attitude we had tonight, we should compete each night and our demeanor is positive and enthusiastic,” Scott said. “We have kids that want to compete and be their best and as a coach, you can’t ask for anything else.”
