SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: CORNING SET TO HOST VESTAL TONIGHT (2024-11-01)
Southern Tier Sports ReportCORNING — The Corning Hawks wrap up the regular season with a senior-night showdown with Vestal tonight.
“They embrace the opportunity to go out and compete each weekend against really good competition,” Corning coach Mike Johnston Jr. said. “It’s also senior night and the last regular season game. Vestal is the Defending Class A champion and a force in Section 4.”
The Hawks are focused on this week only and not looking ahead to the postseason.
“We are focused on the task at hand,” Johnston Jr. said. “We will have to compete on every play, one play at a time to have success.”
And, Corning knows they face a tough test this week.
“Vestal has played really good competition within Section IV this fall,” Johnston Jr. said. “They are big and strong up front, have a really good running back, quarterback that has thrown for over 1,000 yards in eight games, and have the leading wide receiver in Section 4.”
The keys are the same for the Hawks, play well in all aspects of the game.
“Our focus is on alignment and assignment on all three sides of the ball,” Johnston Jr. said. “We need to execute on offense, contain their athlete’s defensively, and our players need to make plays.”
