STAC CROSS COUNTRY: CORNING BOYS AND GIRLS TAKE 2ND AT STAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, CORNING MODIFIED TEAMS WIN TITLES (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-28)
Southern Tier Sports ReportONEONTA — The Corning boys and girls’ cross country teams each finished second at the STAC Championships over the weekend.
For the boys Corning had a team score of 45. Ithaca won at 27. Horseheads was fifth at 129. Elmira took 12th at 331.
Corning’s Sebastian Boutwell was third in 16:32.40. Riley Hubisz of Ithaca won in 16:12.60.
Jaxyn Mahoney of Corning was sixth in 16:49 and Gregory Homa was ninth in 16:52 followed by Nicholas Ferratella in 16:52.10 and Nicholas Kowal of Horseheads in 16:57.70.
Allen Wetmore of Horseheads was 16th in 17:24 followed by Corning’s Bryce Hammond in 17:26.20. Corning’s Christopher Lawson was 23rd in 17:43.30 and Hunter Lewis of Horseheads was 32nd in 18:05.50.
Luke Dordoni of Horseheads was 37th in 18:15.70, while Samuel Kirk of Corning was 40th in 18:19.20 followed by Michael Naylor of Corning in 18:21.10.
Horseheads’ Max Williams was 44th in 18:24.80 followed by teammate Jack Sydlansky in 18:25.80.
Corning’s Graham Wightman was 47th in 18:35.70 while Ashtyn Stark of Corning was 51st in 18:41.10.
Dominick Marino of Horseheads was 57th in 19:00.50 and teammate Joseph Juan was 60th in 19:04.80 followed by Elmira’s James Lovell in 19:06.80.
Horseheads’ Gavin Hornsby was 64th in 19:24.80 followed by teammate Finn Van Buskirk in 19:33.70.
Ayden Coleman of Elmira was 74th in 20:09.30 and teammate Henry Mletzko was 80th in 20:45.10 followed by teammate Jadon Lagonegro in 20:47.90.
Elmira’s Jaydan Roberts was 101st in 22:28.10 and teammate Aaron Skinkle was 103rd in 22:53.40, while teammate Romeo Cade was 109th in 23:18.10.
For the girls Corning had 43 points and were edged by Ithaca (40) by just three points. Horseheads was fifth at 130.
Olivia Martinec of Corning was third in 20;15.30. Ithaca’s Tsadia Bercuvitz won at 17:52.40.
Mackenzie Baker of Horseheads was fifth in 20:36.30 followed by Elmira’s Ella Devlin (20:39.60) and Corning’s Lauren Roche (21:00.40).
Elmira’s Madelyn Wise was ninth in 21:11.50 and Elianna Schneider of Corning was 11th in 21:24.40. Madie Sweet of Corning was 14th in 21:49.40 followed by teammate Kyra Gross (22:01.60), Horseheads’ Suzanne Sydlansky (22:02.60) and Corning’s Leila Ianovici (22:04.40).
Corning’s Kaitlyn Lee was 22nd in 22:25.30 and teammate Lillian Deurlein was 26th in 22:35.70 followed by teammate Kendall Curreri (22:42.70). Allison Conway of Corning was 33rd in 22:58.40.
Alexus Borek of Horseheads was 38th in 23:32.70 and teammate Stella Harrison was 52nd in 25:07.60.
Elmira’s Mariah Faucett was 60th in 26:06.20 and Horseheads’ Sophia Christmas was 65th in 26:41.60.
In JV boys Corning was fourth at 94 points followed by Horseheads at 120. Corning won the JV girls race at 15 points.
For the JV girls Corning’s Layla Byzitter won in 23:23.10 followed by teammates Madeline Kirk (23:53.20), Anna Patton (24:24.20), Lorelei Strong (24:28.20) and Macailyn York (24:32.40). Lauren Williams was seventh in 25:30.40 followed by Emma Pfleegor in 25:34.60.
For the boys Abdiel Basabakwinshi of Horseheads was seventh in 19:39.30 and Thomas VanSlyke of Corning was 13th in 19:55.30. Preston Miller of Corning was 15th in 19:59.10 and Edward Witt of Corning was 17th in 20:02.70 followed by teammate Dominik Davis (20:03).
Nolan Miller of Horseheads was 31st in 21:16 followed by teammate Keegan Duart (21:17.80). Horseheads’ RJ Bigelow was 42nd in 21:39.20 and Corning’s Colten Ketchum was 45th in 21:47.30. Tanner Knapp of Horseheads was 48th in 21:57.40.
Corning’s Brock Allington was 56th in 22:25.40 followed by teammate Benjamin Mahon in 22:31.20. Corning’s William McConnell was 59th in 22:38.10 and Horseheads’ Aaron Kaiser was 63rd in 23:15.90. Corning’s Dwayne Gardiner was 71st in 24:12.
Corning’s modified boys swept the top five spots to win the title with a perfect score of 15.
Keith Huff won in 9:50.30 followed by Andrew Miller (9:52.20), Elijah Sonner (9:57.20), Connor Harrington (10:05) and Charlie Wukovitz (20:05.50).
Corning’s Isaac Ballard was ninth in 10:27.90 and Corning’s Ryan Madden was 15th in 10:42. Horseheads’ Brayden Slavin was 17th in 11:03.20.
Britton Chapman of Corning was 31st in 11:20.60 and teammate Sylas Ruza was 34th in 11:24.90 with teammate Jax Adams 38th in 11:33.40. Corning’s Maxwell Keegan was 40th in 11:42.90 followed by teammate Gavin Bierwiler (11:43.20) and Noah Cloke of Horseheads (11:45.10).
Aydin Butters of Elmira was 49th in 11:54.40 while Daniel Mosher of Horseheads was 53rd in 12:06.10 and teammate Cruze Owen was 55th in 12:09.90. Horseheads’ Tanner Findley was 58th in 12:12.20 and Corning’s Braedyn Copp was 60th in 12:19.10 while Nathaniel Carlton of Corning was 62nd in 12:23.10 followed by Horseheads’ Michael Christmas (12:23.10) and Mason Dispenza (12:28.30). Elmira’s Emry Bahantka was 67th in 12:34 followed by Pierce Terwilliger of Horseheads in 12:35.70. Elmira’s Xavier Keough was 73rd in 12:38.70.
Corning’s John Shanchuk was 82nd in 12:48.30 and Horseheads’ Landon Andrews was 85th in 12:51.70. Elmira’s Adam Loftus was 88th in 13:00 and teammate Alexander Barletta was 90th in 13:02.50.
Elmira’s Landon Stein was 104th in 13:29.70 followed by Corning’s Lilian Bisson in 13:30.60. Corning’s Ben Vang was 107th in 13:37.40 followed by teammates Tristan Pratt (13:42.50) and Garrett Smith (13:43.60). Horseheads’ Chase Barnstead was 116th in 14:39.30. Corning’s Chase Reed was 120th in 14:56.10. Corning’s Ben Stumper was 135th in 18:21.30.
Corning’s girls had two of the top three finishers and five in the top 15 to win the title.
Abigail Wagner was second in 10:57 followed by teammate Finley Price (10:59.30). Elmira’s Molly Doran was fifth in 11:16.70 followed by Horseheads’ Hannah Sydlansky in 11:27.70. Corning’s Kateland Dininny was eighth in 11:42.60 and Corning’s Vanessa Topielec was 12th in 12:03.50 while Ella Scibek of Horseheads was 14th in 12:14.80 followed by Corning’s Eleanor Robson (12:23.30) and Horseheads’ Aubri Houck (12:22.70).
May Fenway of Corning was 18th in 12:28.60 while teammate Jaclyn Lee was 21st in 12:43.30. Corning’s Neha Parasuram was 24th in 12:56 and teammates Ammarah Kinsey (13:09.80) and Mia Owens (13:12.20) were 27th and 28th followed by Elmira’s Paityn Walburn (13:12.90) and Annalyse Ferriter (13:16.30). Corning’s Finley Bloor was 32nd in 13:19.30.
Amber Mahmood of Elmira was 41st in 13:46.40 while Aleyris Echevarria of Horseheads was 48th in 13:59.30.
Horseheads’ Lillian Shope was 50th in 14:09.30 followed by Elmira’s MalloryDuffy (14:10.80). Corning’s Vera Despain was 54th in 14:18.80. Horseheads’ Adelaide Pronti was 57th in 14:33.70.
Layla Hoeffner of Horseheads was 61st in 15:03.50 while Corning’s Katelyn Brayman was 63rd in 15:18.10. Elmira’s Alaina Locker was 65th in 15:42.10. Horseheads’ Sohila Elmenshawy was 70th in 16:25.90. Horseheads’ Ari Shopper was 78th in 23:02.80.
