Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA HEIGHTS — For the first time in 17 years the Edison football team is headed to the Section 4 playoffs.

Edison beat Greene 38-6 in eight-man football on Saturday, clinching their first playoff spot since 2007.

“Wow, really special for us to make the playoffs,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “We have one regular season game left. For us to accomplish a goal at the start of the season is great.”

The Spartans turned in a strong defensive effort in the win.

“We struggled a bit on offense, made a lot of mistakes and will improve for this week,” Erickson said. “We had a great defensive game and didn’t allow them to do much today. We played well, but would love to limit the mistakes.”

Greg Golden started the scoring for Edison with a 12-yard touchdown run at 2:23 of the opening quarter.

Paxton Hoover hauled in an 11-yard touchdown from Drew Slaven five seconds into the second quarter and Slaven then ran for a one-yard scored at 9:02.

Hoover then caught a six-yard touchdown pass with 6:07 left in the half as Edison led 24-0 at the half.

Reyes McAtee had a nine-yard touchdown run at 8:22 of the third quarter and McAtee caught the two-point try from Slaven.
