STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: EDISON'S GOLDEN AND CORNING'S WOOD (2024-10-25)

There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the first athlete of the week honors of the season. In the end, it was Corning’s Maddie Wood and Edison’s Greg Golden who were named the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

Greg Golden
Edison, football
Ran for 255 yards and two touchdowns in a 44-6 win over Groton in eight-man football.

Golden ran 23 times in the game and had four carries over 20 yards and two over 50 yards in the game.

Golden also had two catches in the game as Edison won for the third time in four games.

Golden also had eight tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Maddie Wood
Corning, volleyball
Had 31 assists, 18 points, with three aces, nine digs and two kills to help Corning reach the gold finals at the Horseheads Tournament over the weekend.

Corning was 5-1 in pool play, splitting with finalist Baldwinsville for their only loss in pool play. They then beat Horseheads, before falling to eventual champion Portville, who has won state titles in five of the past six seasons.
