SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: HORSEHEADS SET FOR ANOTHER DIVISION MATCHUP (2024-10-25)
Southern Tier Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Last week was a big one for the Horseheads football team as they picked up a key divisional win, topping Vestal.
“Think everyone feels pretty good, but knows we need to stay focused,” Horseheads coach Kevin Hillman said.
It’s another divisional matchup this week for Horseheads as they go to Binghamton.
“Kids are ready,” Hillman said. “It’s another step in reaching our goal of a home playoff game and potential home field throughout sectionals.”
There can be some challenges to back-to-back long bus rides to Vestal and Binghamton.
“It’s more of a mental thing,” Hillman said. “We need to use that time on the bus to stay focused and stay in the winning mindset.”
While Binghamton has struggled this year, Hillman knows it’s still a team that can be tough.
“They’ve struggled, but I think you can see that they are improving,” Hillman said. “They have athletes that can make plays and are aggressive defensively. If they make some plays early on, they can give us trouble. We need to match intensity from the moment the ball is kicked off.”
The Blue Raiders know they have to be fundamentally sound in the game.
“Stay disciplined, and play aggressive on both sides of the ball,” Hillman said. “We do that we should put ourselves in a position to be successful.”
