SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: ELMIRA SET FOR MATCHUP AGAINST DEFENDING STATE-CHAMPION CBA (2024-10-25)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — It was a key divisional matchup last week between Elmira and Corning, and the Express never like coming out on the wrong side of those games.
The key for the Express coming into this week is to try and improve from a week ago.
“We try and get better every week,” Elmira coach Jimmy McCauley said. “We do not like losing — so last week’s result was not what we wanted.”
While the Express are dealing with injuries, they know that’s something everyone has to deal with in football.
“Every team has to overcome injuries, that’s a part of what makes a group a team,” McCauley said.
The Express face a tough test this week against defending state champions Christian Brothers Academy.
“CBA is a well-coached team, with very talented players,” McCauley said.
Elmira knows the run game, and the turnover battle are key this week.
“We believe in running the football, stopping the run, and creating turnovers on defense,” McCauley said.
