SECTION 4 CROSS COUNTRY: CORNING WINS TITLES, AS LOCALS DOMINATE AT MARATHON INVITE (2024-10-21)

MARATHON — The Corning boys won the seeded race at the Marathon Invitational, while the girls took third in the race and won the unseeded race. Elmira’s Ella Devlin won the unseeded race as an individual.

For the boys Corning had a team score of 43 with Ithaca second at 58. Horseheads took fourth at 138.

Sebastian Boutwell was fifth for Corning in 17:13.50 and teammate Jaxyn Mahoney was eighth in 17:19.30 followed by teammate Nicholas Ferratella in 17:20.90.

Horseheads’ Nicholas Kowal was 11th in 17:30.60 followed by Corning’s Gregory Homa in 17:30.70. Corning’s Bryce Hammond was 14th in 17:36.80.

Christopher Lawson of Corning was 23rd in 18:12.30 and Horseheads’ Luke Dordoni was 31st in 18:43.60 followed by teammates Jack Sydlansky (18:49.40) and Max Williams (18:54.30).

Horseheads’ Dominick Marino was 36th in 19:20.60 and teammate Joseph Juan was 50th in 19:43, while teammate Kiran Gulati was 55th in 20:09.70. Logan Hornsby of Horseheads was 68th in 21:46.80.

On the girls side Corning was third at 87. Ithaca won at 77, followed by Fabius-Pompey at 79.

Corning’s Olivia Martinec was second in 20:07.80 and teammate Lauren Roche was ninth in 21:21.90.

Elianna Schneider was 17th for Corning in 22:39.70, and Horseheads’ Suzanne Sydlansky was 19th in 22:47.40 and Corning’s Kaitlyn Lee was 27th in 23:23.30, while Leila Ianovici of Corning was 34th in 24:28.10.

Alisyn Conway of Corning was 48th in 26:07.50. Horseheads’ Sophia Christmas was 56th in 27:05.70.

In the boys unseeded race Horseheads was second at 100 points behind Ithaca at 61. Corning took fourth at 153 and Elmira was sixth at 184. Edison was 10th at 249.

Notre Dame’s Gavin Meier was seventh in 18:48 followed by Ellmira’s James Lovell in 18:50. Hunter Lewis of Horseheads was 10th at 19:04.

Edison’s Jameson Duggan was 18th in 19:40 and Finn Van Buskirk of Horseheads was 22nd in 19:43 followed by teammate Abdiel Basabakwinshi in 19:47.

Corning’s Thomas VanSlyke was 27th in 20:00 followed by Elmira’s Ayden Coleman in 20:02. Preston Miller of Corning was 30th in 20:05 and Joshua Knapp of Horseheads was 38th in 20:22.

Corning’s Benjamin Mahon was 42nd in 20:31 and Horseheads’ Joel Scibek was 45th in 20:39, while Dominik Davis of Corning was 47th in 20:42.

Horseheads’ Tanner Knapp was 51st in 20:50 followed by Edison’s Zachary Sternfels in 20:54.

Bjorn Suarez of Corning was 58th in 21:04 followed by teammate Edward Witt in 21:04 and Elmira’s Henry Mletzko in 21:09.

Edison’s Kaleb Podoliak was 62nd in 21:12 and Horseheads’ RJ Bigelow was 64th in 21:14, while teammate Nick Fears was 66th in 21:30. Elmira’s Jaden Lagonegro was 68th in 21:32 and Aaron Skinkle of Elmira was 76th in 21:48.

Augustus Ector of Edison was 81st in 21:58 while Colten Ketchum of Corning was 85th in 22:14. Elmira’s Jaydan Roberts was 90th in 22:43.

Carson Balash was 107th in 23:04 while Elmira’s Wally Ferriter was 115th in 23:16 followed by Cameron Kraft of Notre Dame in 23:16. Notre Dame’s Robert Sharp was 120th in 23:40 and Horseheads’ Drake Ernst was 124th in 24:15 followed by Edison’s Carter Smith in 24:22. Romeo Cade of Elmira was 127th in 24:30. Notre Dame’s Trevor Agan was 136th in 25:26.

Corning won the girls unseeded race at 30 points, while Ella Devlin of Elmira won the race individually.

Devlin won the race in 21:16.80 and teammate Madelyn Wise was fourth at 21:38.40. Corning’s Madie Sweet was seventh at 22:29.60 and teammate Lillian Deuerlein was ninth at 22:54.10 and teammate Kendall Curreri was 13th in 23:33.

Edison’s Mayla Falank was 15th in 24:35.10 followed by Anna Patton of Corning in 24:51. Lorelei Strong of Corning was 18th in 25:06.80 and Notre Dame’s Caitlin Keenan was 22nd in 25:22 and teammate Marta Albaladejo Tejedor was 25th in 25:38.80.

Mariah Faucett of Elmira was 43rd in 27:23.90 and Notre Dame’s Lylie Colunio was 46th in 27:47.30. Edison’s Olivia Vinsek was 62nd in 30:04.30 and teammate Riley Shilling was 71st in 32:29.20 followed by teammate Madison Palmieri in 32:35.30. Notre Dame’s Luana Silveira was 89th in 40:20.20.

Corning’s boys’ modified team dominated on their way to a title, scoring 15 points, with Ithaca next at 60. The Hawks had the top six finishers in the race. Horseheads was sixth at 154 points followed by Elmira at 199.

Corning’s Elijah Sonner won at 9:08.5 followed by teammates Keith Huff (9:10), Andrew Miller (9:15.5), Connor Harrington (9:19.3), Charlie Wukovitz (9:20.1) and Isaac Ballard (9:23.5). Corning’s Ryan Madden was 10th in 9:50.9.

Corning’s Britton Chapman was 21st in 10:15.1 and teammate Sylas Ruza was 26th in 10:30.3 while Jax Adams of Corning was 10:42.5 and Gavin Bierwiler was 31st in 10:43.8. Horseheads’ Tanner Findley was 35th in 11:01.8 and teammate Cruze Owen was 40th in 11:07.5 followed by Corning’s Maxwell Keegan in 11:08.4.

Horseheads’ Landon Andrews was 46th in 11:20.1 followed by Elmira’s Aydin Butters in 11:23.2. Horseheads’ Michael Christmas was 55th in 11:31.5 and teammate Daniel Mosher was 57th in 11:38. Elmira’s Emry Bahantka was 64th in 11:59.7 followed by Corning’s John Shanchuk was 65th in 12:01.1. Horseheads’ Pierce Terwilliger was 67th in 12:05.2 followed by Corning’s Braedyn Coppp at 12:05.9. Horseheads’ Mason Dispense was 70th in 12:08.1 followed by Elmira’s Adam Loftus in 12:13.1. Elmira’s Xavier Keough was 73rd in 12:15.4.

Tristan Pratt of Corning was 79th in 12:48.1 and Elmira’s Alexander Barletta was 81st in 12:55.6. Corning’s Garrett Smith was 87th in 13:10.4 and Horseheads’ Chase Barnstead was 94th in 14:01 followed by teammate Chase Reed in 14:07.8. Corning’s Ben Yang was 107th in 16:31.5 while teammate Ben Stumper was 112th in 17:58.8.

For the modified girls in the large school race Corning was second at 36 with Ithaca winning at 32. Horseheads took third at 82 points.

Abigail Wagner of Corning was second in 9:52.7 and teammate Finley Price was fourth in 10:10.1 followed by Elmira’s Molly Doran in 10:30.8.

Corning’s Kateland Dininny was seventh in 10:49.5 followed by teammate Vanessa Tpielec in 10:51.5 and Hannah Sydlansky of Horseheads in 10:53.4.

Horseheads’ Ella Scibek was 12th in 11:07.4 and teammate Aubri Houck was 14th in 11:11.2. Corning’s Eleanor Robson was 16th in 11:33.4.

Corning’s Max Fenway was 20th in 11:48.7 and teammate Neha Parasuram was 23rd in 11:58.8 followed by teammates Mia Owens (12:01.5) and Finley Bloor (12:15). Elmira’s Annalyse Ferriter was 27th in 12:19.9 and Corning’s Jaxlyn Lee was 35th in 12:45.9.

Aleyris Echevarria of Horseheads was 38th in 13:01.5 followed by teammate Lillian Shope in 13:03, Corning’s Vera Despain in 13:03.3 and Elmira’s Mallory Duffy in 13:03.7.

Layla Hopeffner of Horseheads was 47th in 13:25.8 followed by Elmira’s Amber Mahmoud in 13:26.1. Adelaide Pronti of Horseheads was 50th in 13:42.3 and teammate Luci Shope was 52nd in 13:44.3.

Corning’s Katelyn Brayman was 55th in 14:20.9 followed by teammate Aubrey Miller in 14:22.5 and Elmira’s Alaina Locker in 14:38. Horseheads’ Sohila Elmenshawy was 60th in 15:205 and ateammate Ari Shopper was 72nd in 22:45.1.

For the modified girls small-school race Edison was second at 66 points with Odessa-Montour winning at 46.

Edison’s Olivia Welch was eighth in 11:27.9 and teammate Emma Duggan was 16th in 11:53.6. Edison’s Paisley Harnas was 20th in 12:04.1 followed by teammate Emma Rose Deats in 12:05.4.

Aubriella Ector was 51st in 14:31.8 and teammate Parker Lincoln was 60th in 16:17.5 and teammate Eva Mirando was 67th in 16:45.1. Edison’s Maricely Sando was 75th in 19:05.

Edison was sixth in the boys modified small-school race at 134 with Sidney winning at 62.

Edison’s Mark Schillo was seventh in 10:17.6 and teammate Grayson Margeson was 22nd in 11:01.8.

Camden Smith of Edison was 63rd in 12:51.9. Sawyer Burleigh was 78th in 14:09.7 followed by teammate Cyrus Bidwell in 14:11.6.

In the boys JV race Horseheads was fourth at 87 points. Owego won at 44 points.

Horseheads’ Tobias Trema was ninth in 20:45.20 and teammate Keegan Duart was 18th in 21:26.70 followed by teammate Nolan Miller in 21:50.10.

Christian Scibek of Horseheads was 34th in 22:51.70 and teammate Dexter Bell was 37th in 23:17.70 followed by Corning’s Brock Allington in 23:27.40 and Deren Dubuque of Horseheads in 23:30.10. Corning’s William McConnell was 42nd in 23:37.10.

Horseheads’ Jack Clate was 48th in 24:16.90 and teammate Nate Hall was 50th in 24:36.40. Edison’s Christopher Bieniek was 56th in 25:37.60 and Ethan Smith of Corning was 61st in 25:52.30. Edison’s Shawn Kelly was 82nd in 31:20.20 followed by Corning’s Alex Nichols in 32:11.70.

For the girls in the JV race Corning’s Macailyn York was fourth in 25:40.20 followed by teammate Lauren Williams in 25:46.40 followed by Horseheads’ Stella Harrison at 26:25.60. Corning’s Emma Pfleegor was eighth in 27:14.40 followed by Sydney Moss of Twin Tiers Christian in 27:36.10.

Horseheads’ Cassidy Johnson was 12th in 27:47.70. Twin Tiers’ Kaylea Heraghty was 14th in 28:21.70. Layla Storch of Horseheads was 17th in 29:23.60. Lyla Vroman of Twin Tiers Christian was 24th in 40:11.50.
