EIGHT-MAN FOOTBALL: EDISON READY FOR TRIP TO GROTON (2024-10-18)
Southern Tier Sports ReportGROTON — The Edison football team hits the road tonight to take on Groton.
The Spartans are coming off a l42-18 oss on the road to Moravia a week ago, a team that beat Groton 43-6 three weeks ago.
The teams have two other common opponents. Edison beat Newfield 63-6 and Groton won 52-8.
Edison beat Unatego/Franklin 48-0 and Groton fell to Unatego/Franklin 20-12.
“The team is excited to play this week,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “The team was very focused this week on our drills and game preparation and are ready to play Friday night.”
The Spartans have been road warriors this year, going on the road for the fourth time this year, and second straight week.
“Back-to-back road trips are tough, but I think we are getting the traveling thing, this is our fourth road game of the season, but everyone is focused on the task at hand,” Erickson said.
The Spartans know they face another test this week.
“Groton is a tough team and one of the teams we have struggled with in the past,” Erickson said. “We expect them to be a tough and physical team. We expect a heavy dose of the run. Defensively we expect a lot of pressure with good linebacker play.”
The Spartans know they have to play fundamentally sound football.
“Defensively we need to play disciplined and do our jobs,” Erickson said. “We must stop the run and watch out for the end fly. Offensively we must put drives together that end with points. We need to control the ball and the clock to win the game.”
