IAC GIRLS' SOCCER: TARBY RECORDS 16 SAVES AS EDISON WRAPS UP FIRST SEASON WITH STRONG EFFORT (2024-10-15)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Kaylynn Darby had 16 saves as the Edison girls’ soccer team fought in a close game with Union Springs/Port Byron.

The Spartans were down just 1-0 at the half. USPB had 22 shots and 10 corners and Edison had five shots and two corner kicks.

"A completely different game from our first meeting with USPB," Edison coach Kevin Weber said. "It was another fantastic all-around team effort in staying organized defensively, either thwarting their offensive attacks early, or forcing the play weide. And, compared to our previous emeting where we rarely entered their half of the field, we generated multiple quality counter-attacking chances tonight, one of which was a shot that just missed wide of an open net that would have tied the score 1-1 just before halftime.

"In a season that was always going to be a difficult battle for a first-year program, I think this group of girls exceeded any expectations that could have been set for them. Their hard work and consistent improvement from game to game was a joy to witness and be a part of. They made showing up to work every day an easy and enjoyuable job for my father and I. While we will miss our two graduating seniors, I am eager to begin the work and preparations already for our sophomore season next year. Elmira Heights girls' soccer has arrived, we are here to stay, and I'm excited to see what our future holds."
