SECTION 4 GIRLS' SWIMMING & DIVING: HORSEHEADS WINS TEAM TITLE AT ELMIRA INVITE AS LOCALS SHINE (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-13)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Horseheads girls won the Class A division at the Elmira Splash for a Cure Swimming.& Diving Invitational on Saturday, while Corning was second.
Horseheads had a score of 410 to win the division (and post the top score of any team in any division). Corning was second at 291. Elmira was fifth at 120.
Horeheads team of Sibby and Anna Lowe, Gabrielle Janeski and Karina Lapierre won the 200 medley relay in 1:52.63 followed by Corning’s Alexys Nale, Erika Liu, Alyssa Reimsnyder and Maria Kuksenkova in 2:00.01. Elmira’s Madelyn Cavalier,Maren Novotny, Ava Sherman and Eleanor Hagan took ninth in 2:10.03. Notre Dame’s Isabella Mashewske, Leah Gonzalez, Hannah Gonzalez and Charlotte Welliver took 11th in 2:16.42.
Corning’s Devin Price was second in the 200 free in 2:06.42 followed by Horseheads’ Genevieve Carro (2:09.01) and Elise Levantovich (2:09.76). Corning’s Ellie Ballard was Sith in 2:11.25. Horseheads’ Lily Hall took eighth in 2:14.67 followed by teammate Jackie Mayotte (2:18.46). Horseheads’ Ava Knowlton was 12th in 2:21.56 and Maren Novotny of Elmira was 16th in 2:25.43.
Mia Carro of Horseheads won the 200 IM in 2:19.82 and teammate Ali Mosher was fourth in 2:27.37. Notre Dame’s Leah Gonzalez was 12th in 2:40.46 followed by Corning’s Reese Conway (2:40.98).
Anna Lowe of Horseheads was second in the 50 free in 24.21 followed by Sibby Lowe (24.98). Corning’s Nale was eighth in 25.61 and Corning’s Kuksenkova was 14th in 27.24 followed by Notre Dame’s Alexis Collins in 27.45. Cornings’ Morgan Dahlman was 18th in 27.99 followed by MacKenzie Grover of Horseheads (28.23) and Welliver (28.42).
In the diving Cella McLaughlin of Corning was third at 535.55 and teammate Wendy Lynch was seventh at 393.75 followed by Horseheads’ Makenzie Blauvelt at 373.60 and Corning’s Nicole Gaskievicz at 353.10. Elmira’s Ellie Johnson was 11th at 304.80.
Mia Carro of Horseheads won the 100 fly in 1:00.31 and Cavalier was third for Elmira in 1:06.13 followed by Janeski in 1:07.37. Reimsnyder was seventh in 1:11.79 and Olivia Schwab of Horseheads was 10th in 1:13.47. Nicole Miller of Corning was 14th in 1:15.91 and Hannah Gonzalez was 17th for Notre Dame in 1:18.70 followed by Knowlton (1:19.66) and Bridget Hagan (1:20.47) and Kaydence Green (1:20.81) of Elmira.
Sibby Lowe of Horseheads won the 100 free in 54.34 followed by teammate Anna Lowe in 54.81. Price was sixth for Corning in 57.88 and teammate Kuksenkova was ninth in 1:00.03. Notre Dame’s Collins was 12th in 1:01.14 followed by Grover (1:01.72) and Horseheads teammate Becky Hutcheson (1:01.76). Liu of Corning was 15th in 1:02.80 and Welliver was 20th for Notre Dame in 1:04.72.
Lapierre was second in the 500 free in 5:50.15 followed by teammate Levantovich in 5:52.14 and Ballard of Corning in 5:54.19. Horseheads’ Hall was eighth in 6:03.86 followed by teammate Mayotte in 6:05.37.
Ava Sherman of Elmira was 14th in the 500 free in 6:23.08 and teammate Aubrey Newkirk was 20th in 6:44.83.
Mia Carro, Sibby Lowe, Anna Lowe and Janeski took second in the 200 free relay in 1:40.39 and Corning’s Reimsnyder, Price, McLaughlin and Kuksenkova took fifth in 1:51.64. Notre Dame’s Welliver, Ella Cain, Hannah Gonzalez and Collins took ninth in 1:56.98. Elmira’s Eleanor Hagan, Green Johnson and Leah Church took 11th in 2:04.97.
Mosher took second in the 100 back in 1:02.33 and teammate Lapierre was sixth in 1:03.66 followed by Conway in 1:07.71. Corning’s Dahlman was 10th in 1:08.68 followed by Cavalier (1:08.85) and Miller (1:09.85). Schwab was 16th in 1:12.83 followed by teammate Caroline Wilcox in 1:13.02. Notre Dame’s Mashewske was 20th in 1:15.53.
Nale was second in the 100 breaststroke in1 :12.15 and Janeski was sixth in 1:16.28 followed by Liu in 1:16.70. Genevieve Carro was ninth in 1:20.44 and Hutcheson was 12th in 1:23.23 while Kirsten Davis of Horseheads was 19th in 1:26.03 followed by Corning’s Lauren Mahon (1:26.33).
Mia Carro, Lapierre, Levantovich and Mosher were third in the 400 free relay in 3:56.53 and Notre Dame’s Collins, Cain, Mashewske and Leah Gonzalez took fifth in 4:20.29. Elmira’s Sherman, Eleanor Hagan, Novotny and Cavalier took ninth in 4:28.78.
