STAC BOYS' SOCCER: HORSEHEADS FALLS TO UNBEATEN OWEGO IN BATTLE OF STATE-RANKED TEAMS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-10-10)

HORSEHEADS — Three second-half goals helped the Owego boys’ soccer team stay unbeaten with a 3-1 win at Horseheads on Thursday night.

Zyir Van Scoy scored a pair of goals and Vasil Brich scored for Owego in the win.

Vasil, Adam Llewelyn and goalie Connor Kotski had assists in the game.

Senior Ben Church had the Horseheads goal on senior night for the Blue Raiders.

Owego came in ranked second in the state in Class A, while Horseheads is ranked 14th in AA.

“This was a really fantastic game,” Owego coach Alessio De Michele said. “Two good teams looking to play the right way, attacking with numbers, always trying to create something. I’m so proud of how my boys have really imposed our style in these more challenging game. Even more proud that we were able to match their great energy and intensity across the field for the full 80 minutes, even if some had the sniffles this week.

“I think we were very unlucky to concede the equalizing goal, but the reaction the adversity makes me even more proud from a human level.”
