Edison’s Andrew Slaven had a near-perfect game to lead Edison to a Homecoming 8-man football win, while Canton’s Izzie Schoonover punched her ticket the PIAA Girls Golf Championships. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week,” for the week ending Oct. 5.

EDISON’S SLAVEN NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Slaven was a perfect 12-for-12 passing for 187 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a 63-6 Homecoming win over Newfield.

It was the first homecoming win for Edison in four years.

Slaven did all of his damage in the first half, and sat out the second half.

Honorable Mentions: Athens’ Graham Wanck (cross country) and Eli Hicks (golf), Towanda’s Owen Savercool (golf), Cowanesque Valley’s Graham Hess (football), and SVEC’s Jakobe Foster (football).

CANTON’S SCHOONOVER NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Schoonover made history as the first golfer in program history to qualify for the PIAA, Class AA Girls’ Golf Championships.

Schoonover took home silver at the District IV, Class AA Girls’ Championships, shooting a 103 the first day at Williamsport Country Club, then finishing with a 92 on the second day.

She finished plus-49 for the tournament, avoiding a playoff for third by one stroke.

Honorable Mentions: Horseheads’ Mia Carro (swimming), Troy’s Saydi Renzo, Northeast Bradford’s Toni Herb, Candor’s Phoebe Swartz (Candor), Waverly’s Mira Kittle (swimming), and Wellsboro’s Maddy Cruttenden (volleyball).
