SUNRISE, FLA. — Elmira’s Johnny Beecher kicked off the season with an assist in the Boston Bruins’ 6-4 loss to the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.

Beecher assisted on the Bruins’ second-period goal.

Florida led 4-1 after one period and were up 5-1 when Beecher helped the Bruins in their comeback bid.

Beecher had an assist on a goal by Charlie McAvoy.

Beecher played 21 shifts and 15 minutes and 18 seconds of playing time. Beecher played nine minutes and 35 seconds even strength and played five minutes and 39 seconds on the penalty kill. He played four seconds on the power play.

Beecher won 3-of-5 face-offs he took and he had three shots in the game, a hit and blocked three shots.
