Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — Seventh-grader Madison Doran scored her first varsity goal as the Elmira girls’ soccer team beat Corning 1-0 in the Express’ Pink Game on Tuesday.
“Just a gritty, hard-fought game by our team,” Elmira coach Zach Sarno said. “Both teams battled, every game with them is close neck and next game, this one was no different.
“Good result today, we look to get better tomorrow.”
The pink game fundraiser raised over $600 for the WINK Foundation.
Two teachers at Elmira have fought breast cancer and were recognized. Melissa Millazo, an Elmira High School teacher, and Jill Benjamin, an EDA teacher, have both taught players on the team. Millazo is the aunt of Elmira player Julianna Wilbur.
