Southern Tier Sports ReportSOUTHPORT — The Notre Dame girls’ soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Trumansburg in a matchup of state-ranked teams on senior night.
Both teams came in tied for 20th ranked in the state in Class C’s rankings.
Both Notre Dame goals were scored by McKenna Keough in the win.
“In the first half we lost our focus for just a moment and a loose ball rolled into our goal,” Notre Dame coach Joe Picco said. “Seven minutes later McKenna took a ball from outside the box with great feet and dicd up three Trumansburg defenders for her first goal.
“The second half began with us not on our front foot and we scrambled several times to thwart off Trumansburg’s attack. With over 20 minutes left in the second half Lizzie Young played a great ball to McKenna and she got behind the back line and thwarted off their center back. Espite a good defensive effort, and McKenna losing her balance, she was able to play a great ball past Trumansburg’s goalie.”
It was a good night for Notre Dame to celebrate their four seniors.
“All four of our seniors played exceptionally well and is our tradition on senior night the entire team rose to the occasion,” Picco said. “Really proud of how far the group has come. We continue to battle as many of the girls are under the weather.”
