STAC GIRLS' SOCCER: HORSEHEADS TOPS UNBEATEN ITHACA IN DOUBLE OVERTIME (2024-10-08)

HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads girls’ soccer team handed state-ranked Ithaca their first loss of the season on Tuesday, winning 2-1 in double overtime.

Horseheads was facing an unbeaten Ithaca team, that is ranked eighth in the state.

Maddie Ribble and Sydney Blunt each assisted each other on a goal in the game.

Ribble tied the game in the second half on a Blunt assist and Blunt won it in double overtime on a Ribble assist.

“The ladies played their hearts out tonight,” Horseheads coach Wesley Kirk said. “We were down one at the half and we were able to grab one just before regulation ended through Maddie.

“And, in the second overtime Sydney came up huge on a rebound for the win.”

Horseheads plays Waverly next Tuesday in a cancer awareness game and then it’s onto sectional play.
