Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — A week ago the Edison football team played their first home game of the year, and picked up their first win, 48-0 over Unatego/Franklin.
“The team was excited about getting the first win of the season,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “The team has shown up this week and have been working hard to prepare for this week.
“It’s always fun to win at home, have all of your family, friends and student body there is awesome.”
Last week’s win was a big performance by the Spartans against an unbeaten team.
“It was very happy with how our team performed,” Erickson said. “The offensive line play was great and everyone executed and it was a great total offensive performance.”
The Spartans know they face another tough test this week.
“Newfield is a tough team with some really talented athletes,” Erickson said. “They are very explosive with their speed and they are well coached. We can’t underestimate them becuase they will be prepared.”
The Spartans know they have to set the tone early in the matchup.
“Offensively and defensively we need to come out and set the tone of the game,” Erickson said. “We need to win the game on the line of scirmmage on both sides of the ball. Offensively we need to put drives together and control the ball.”
