SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: EDISON EXCITED FOR FIRST HOME GAME (2024-09-27)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison football team has their first home game of the year today as they host Unatego/Franklin.
“It’s just a good feeling to be home the next two weeks,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “We get to play in front of our family and friends and the team is excited.”
The team knows they face a tough test this week.
“Unatego is always a well coached team and they are going to be tough,” Erickson said. “They are 3-0 and do a good job of being a well balanced offense, mixing both the pass and run, trying to keep the defense on their heels.”
While Edison is 0-2, they are feeling good and are trying to build off the positives from the past two games.
“Our team is feeling good despite the loss,” Erickson said. “We built some confidence in the first half against Trumansburg, so this week we need to put together a complete four quarters.
“We are excited to get our first game at home. We have been on the road the last two weeks and now we are home for the net two weeks, so we are looking forward to not having to travel and build some momentum at home.”
The Spartans know they have to control the clock and limit turnovers.
“Offensively we need to put drives together and control the ball,” Erickson said. “We need to take advtange of our multiple running backs and take advantage of our speed. Defensively we must force U/F to make mistakes and we must capitalize on them. We must win the turnover battle.”
