IAC GIRLS' SOCCER: YOUNG NETS HAT TRICK AS ND DOWNS SVEC (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-18)

Southern Tier Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — MK Young netted a hat trick as the Notre Dame girls’ soccer team picked up a 5-1 win over SVEC on Wednesday night.

Jhamirah Maxwell and MK Young had first half goals for Notre Dame to make it 2-0 at the half.

Maxwell first touch took her to the goal and she played a ball into the side net to make it 1-0 off a McKenna Keough assist.

SVEC kept it a 1-0 game until the final nine seconds of the half, when Notre Dame scored a heartbreaker of a goal.

With nine seconds left in the half there was a throw in from 20 yards out and it went right to Keough’s feet and she took it to the endline and placed a great ball to Young’s feet for a redirect and goal with 1.4 seconds left before the break.

Notre Dame came out of the half talking about Keough and Maxwell taking the ball to the goal. Rose Daly gave Keough a great ball in the flank and Keough dribbled to goal and placed an excellent ball past the goalie.

Young then scored the final two goals of the game, to cap her hat trick. Her final goal was a spectacular strike from 25 yards out that went just under the goalie into the corner of the net.

“The girls realize the importance of these games and we will continue to work on possession of the ball with all 11 on the field,” Notre Dame coach Joe Picco said. “At times we get nervous and tend to become very predictable. Our goal this next seven days is to increase our confidence with each other and with ourselves.”

Amelia Morris scored off a Meredith Stutter assist in the second half at 20:33 for SVEC.

Nicole Puli had eight saves in goal for SVEC. Payton Sutryk had four saves for the Crusaders.

SVEC had eight shots in the game and Notre Dame had 16 shots in the contest.
