ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison girls soccer team faced two-time defending sectional champion Watkins Glen and fell in the game 6-0.

It was a 3-0 game at the half and Watkins Glen led in shots 17-1.

Mattison Brush had five saves in goal for Edison and Emma Cady had a save for watkins Glen.

Six different players scored for Watkins Glen.

Mattison Tuttle scored at 9:53, followed by Molly O’Connell (27:22) and Skye Honrath (39:35).

Brianna Hatch scored at 42:00 followed by Olivia VanSkiver and Watkins Glen got the final goal at 47:15

“We played very well again defensively, especially in the first half,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “The girls are learning patience and how and when to pressure the ball, and how to work together to create counterattacking opportunities in each area of the field. We’re also doing much better with limiting the number and quality of shots we allow the opposition to take.

“We are still struggling to find the quality in the offensive end to be able to consistently create our own scoring chances. But, each of our players are putting in the work every day. Pushing through the soreness and injuries that come with such a compact season. I’m very proud of how much we have improved in just a few short weeks, and hope we can continue to build upon the strong foundation that we are creating for the remainders of the season.”
