STAC GIRLS' SOCCER: MAZZALLI'S GOAL LIFTS CORNING PAST HORSEHEADS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-17) Southern Tier Sports Report CORNING — A goal by Lia Mazzalli was the difference as the Corning girls topped Horseheads 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Rukma Chaudhury had eight saves in goal for the shutout for the Hawks.
“We knew it would take a total team effort to beat Horseheads,” Corning coach Julie Pierce said. “Hayden Robertson, Maggie Calkins, Gwen Zimmerman and Kenna Kempton were outstanding in the back. Lilia Mack and Sophia Reuse held us together in the midfield and Lia Mazzali bounced back after a challenging game on Saturday.”
It was a busy week last week, and a tough loss last game out, but the Hawks bounced back on Tuesday.
“Last week, we played three games in Binghamton in five days,” Pierce said. “We lost brutally against Vestal. Three days later these girls rallied around each other and got back to playing Corning soccer. I could not be more proud of their response.”
