HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: CORNING CAPTURES TITLE AT TIOGA TOURNAMENT (2024-09-16)

TIOGA — The Corning volleyball team capped a perfect day by winning the championship at the Tioga Tournament over the weekend.

Corning went 8-0 in pool play and beat host Tioga 25-18 in the semifinals and Candor 25-14 in the championship to be repeat champions.

It’s the second straight title for Corning to start the year as the Hawks also won their tournament this year.

Corning beat South Seneca 25-13, 25-13, Trumansburg 25-18, 25-10, Oneonta 25-14, 25-20 and Dryden 25-16, 26-16 in pool play.

Maddie Wood had 13 points, four digs, three kills and 36 assists and Melina Schweisinger had 27 points, eight aces, six digs and 11 kills.

Sam Molingou had 17 points, two aces, 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks.

Gracee Work had 19 points with seven aces, eight digs and 22 kills, wile Piper Emmick had 14 points, five aces, nine digs, three kills and 27 assists.

Horseheads fell in pool play to Lansing 25-10, 25-21, split with Chenango Valley 25-19, 18-25, lost to Tioga 25-20, 25-15 and lost to Candor 25-21, 25-10.

Adrianna Calbi had 11 kills and six digs and Kailey McCormick had 10 kills and three digs.

Maleah Kohlberger had 19 assists, a dig and two aces and Kaelyn McCarthy had 10 assists and two digs.

Lexi Malay had seven digs and two waves and Lily Patalunas had three kills and four aces.
